2021 Genesis GV80 – Redline: First Look in Miami Beach
Literally here on the streets of Miami Beach, as you can see, the lighting out here is not perfect, but it still does not hide the fact that this is one gorgeous. Looking SUV, you can see this has the new design language. The Genesis just introduced it's called athletic elegance at the front. You can see it's dominated by the company's new crest grille. It actually reminds me a lot of a Bentley, which is a good thing. This thing to me looks a lot better than the Bentley of Antigua and whenever they announce pricing, this should be significantly less. You can see the genesis grill or the emblem is right here, which again kind of reminds me of a Bentley. These quad beam LED headlights are going to be standard equipment on this car. You can see it's a very distinctive look, which kind of reminds me of a Porsche. It just looks very expensive and that's kind of where Genesis was going. The brand has really been killing it in terms of the designs. A lot of their sedans are doing well, but, as you can see, a crossover is really what they've been eating for quite some time now, underneath the hood, this car is going to sport to power trains here in the US. The base engine will be a 2.5 liter turbocharged, four cylinder. It should be the same one that's in the Sonata and line which, in that application, makes 290 horsepower I'm imagining this is gon na, be a little bit more.
The optional engine will be the 3.5 litre twin turbocharged, v6, so it's an all new v6. We haven't seen this v6. Yet, unfortunately, Genesis doesn't have power figures just yet, but it does come standard with an 8 speed automatic and remember a rear wheel. Drive is gon na be standard. All wheel drive will be an option. This car is riding on a new dedicated rear drive platform, so it doesn't share anything with the key Italia ride or the Hyundai policy. Now, as you can see here, the wheels on this particular one here are a massive 22 inches that's right. You can get 22 inch wheels on your GV 80 they're riding on 265 with tires. I think this might be one of the best looking wheels that I've seen in the luxury segment. They really fill out the wheel wells nicely in this car. They didn't have figures in terms of ground clearance or the actual suspension on what it uses. But we'll talk about that of course later, when this car goes on sale this summer. Now, as you can see the rest of the side profile, this is a relatively big looking SUV, because it is this. Car is around 195 inches long it's well, based at 116. Inches long is about 2 inches longer than the tell you so remember, not the same platform, but it really gives it the same. A really great presence this cars about the same size as something like a bmw, x5.
So again, this is why they're calling it the GV 80, because the B stands for versatility and the fact that it's, an 80 means that it's a mid sized offering, because they will be eventually offering a GV 70, which is more compact and then a GV 90, Which they're still kind of toying with the idea of that now, looking at the rear of this vehicle, you can see the same kind of design language. We first saw in the genesis G 90 with these twin LED taillights. The genesis badge is kind of spelled out back here and then there's, a very tasteful looking font that I'm seeing her actually looks relatively good. I think again reminds me a lot of a Bentley on this car, but remember it's, not gon na have the same kind of price that we're talking about here now. Looking at the trunk area, Genesis actually hides the little release over here and when you open up the trunk. Obviously, this one has a power liftgate, and it also has an optional third row, which I'm gon na get back there in the third row later and show you guys the space, but I don't have official figures just yet. Genesis, of course, will announce that at a later date, but you can see if you just push this button over here, the seats will fold down the front. Seats also are the second row. Seats can also fold down as well, but they're not fully electric like the third row.
But when you pull down these seats, you can see it offers a fairly good amount of cargo space. It almost looks like it's, pretty similar to the last. Tell you right in policy that I saw so obviously with a luxury SUV. The exterior design is important, but what about the interior and, as you can see, I'm literally parked on the street of Miami, because it is a crazy kind of unveiling here. There'S. A lot of people here Genesis wanted to make sure this car was getting a lot of coverage and a key, as you can see, with the lighting in here. The interior is really impressive. If you guys find the interior of the Telluride and the pallasite impressive. This is going to basically take it up. One notch above that you can see the dash has complete leather stitching everywhere. There'S real aluminum trim, there's real, you know, matte finish wood in here. The seats up here up front are heated and cooled. The driver's seat has that new massaging adaptive seat chambers, where it has seven different air chambers genesis, says it's designed to reduce fatigue and then, of course, the centerpiece here is that massive 14 and a half inch entertainment display it's. A split screen display it's kind of similar to the interface we've, seen in the other Genesis products, but, as you can see here, this is a touchscreen and it's also controlled from this rotary dial down here, which all of it has really high quality controls.
The wood here looks beautiful. I love this shifter here with the kind of glass like of appliqud over here. That makes it look more expensive and then the steering wheel is an interesting addition over here. You can see it has a unique two spoke. Look that kind of reminds me of the current generation mercedes benz s class. Before they refresh, you can see there's an LCD display over there, a 14 and a half inch display over here and then another LCD display over here. The knee pad over here is even quilted in leather genesis said that that was part of the higher trims. As you can see, there's a lot of beautiful, LED lighting, where you can kind of customize everything. So overall, the cabin is gon na obviously impress you as much as the exterior designers vehicle, but this car is supposed to be a family car. So let me hop into the back seats and show you guys what the space is like now going into the second row of this vehicle. You can see this particular one here has a bench seat now, I'm, not entirely sure. If Genesis is gon na offer a captain's chairs, but I do like the fact that they do allow the seats to slide forward and back that's, because this car offers a third row that's right. A third row seat will be optional, but, as you can see here, if you guys are sitting in the second row, there are a lot of features in here to make it a really nice place to spend time.
The seats back here are also heated and cooled. I'M, guessing that'll be an optional feature. You have your own set of climate controls, there's some rear seat air vents over here. All the materials are also really high quality there's, a lot of LED lighting there's, even a little mirror here. So you can kind of do your makeup and check to make sure that you're looking good whenever you get to your events, the door panels over here you can see, are also soft touch. There'S. Actually, a power retractable shade here, which is really nice again it's going to you know, give this thing a uplevel feel versus it's more. You know plebian Hyundai and Kia cousins, but let me hop into the third row over here. Let me show you that, is that really quickly cart, you can access it by pushing this button over here, you can see it kind of slides the seat forward and back or forward, and when you get back here, let me see there's actually a button back here That I can push – and you can see the seats back here in the third row – are actually power, retractable, which is nice. I don't have any legroom quotes or figures back yet or back here just yet, but you should know that this car, since it's, based on a rear, drive architecture, it doesn't feel quite as spacious as the last tell you right in Palestine. I sat in, however, sitting behind or sitting over here on this side.
This is with a seat all the way back. I actually found it find it to be rather comfortable back here now grant granted I'm short I'm five foot seven. So you know obviously you're taller friends are gon na find a little bit less space back here, but in terms of stuff there are rear seat. Air vents. You can see. There'S a metal speaker cover there's a little bit of storage back here cupholder.
I was going to get an RX 350 but now I”m waiting. This car is gorgeous.
@日産スカイライン i own a bmw and a honda. Who’s a korean car fanboy? All i am saying is lexus is a great entry luxury car but nothing more than that. Look how their true luxury cars like gs ls gx lx are tanking.
@日産スカイライン i think you have some complex against korean cars lol. Were you beat up by a korean kid when you were young? Who the hell is talking about your gtr? No one gives a damn. Rofl.
Redline Reviews …Lexus actually needs to work on their interiors..i mean the kind of materials they use in their interiors makes no different from that of their parent company Toyota
Well, the RX is old. Considering how good the new Toyota Highlander’s interior is, could match the current RX. I’m definitely sure the next gen RX will be even better and hope it will be rwd
@日産スカイラインThis is 2020 Korean cars are very reliable
Was scrolling down my Facebook timeline an saw the gv80 vid was up an couldn’t click on YouTube fast enough! ?
Good evening guys! We apologize for the terrible lighting and just chaos going around. There were two GV80’s to film but the one inside was next to a LOUD live band so we choose to film the one of the street in downtown South Beach. Genesis says the media drive will be in early summer so stay tuned, we can’t wait to drive this really impressive looking new luxury SUV. Japanese and European luxury brands need to take notice at what newcomer Genesis is doing right now. If you love your Telluride and Palisade, you’re going to be gobsmacked at this new GV80!
@Jay Jay Check the Redline site you will see it. He did a Fabulous review on the G90
Genesis, lexus, kia luxury cars and Acura(although they’re slacking) are the most reliable luxury cars!
Beautiful suv . I’m sure you can’t wait to do a full review. Welcome to south florida . My hometown (saludos amigo)
The lighting actually complimented the GV80. Strong work Sir!
I fully expect this vehicle to not only compete with the offerings from Europe and Japan, but the domestic offerings as well. Lincoln and Cadillac are on thin ice already. It’ll be interesting to see how these vehicles compare to each other.
7:03 “Other luxury brands should definitely be worried”… exactly!!!
go buy a GV80 than write a comment
@Raschaud Farmer if they bring back the v Legend, I’m for it. They need to do it right though and not nerf it with a wimpy engine
@H Maccas until they do get worried ?
@Sophea Thun unreliable my grandpa owned a bmw and drove it for 25 years, it was my dad’s firsr car as well
Wow this is a stunning vehicle! I am excited for the future of Genesis! They will soon be a dominant luxury brand as long as they keep expanding their lineup and keep making quality cars. Such a beautiful machine inside and out!
I agree, especially the cost of this vehicle is great and the quality also seems great
Genesis you did it again going straight to the top other luxury brands like Lincoln Mercury, Cadillac, BMW, infinity,Acura,Buick, Lexus even Mercedes better watch out Genesis is on their necks hard they are definitely making a strong statement and that’s a definite ? threat and when they start getting their own Genesis show room where they sell nothing but Genesis cars and trucks it’s a wrap
The big three luxury car brands in America are Mercedes, BMW, and Lexus. Audi is second tier. By the way they don’t make Mercury anymore lol
@wave runner You mean the big ‘popular’ three lol. Lexus is indeed luxury but considering audi as second tier is kinda funny. Just proves how you Americans know cars.
Consider the Audi A8, it doesn’t sell well here. American consumers don’t think an Audi is worth paying $90k for.
@wave runner Exactly. You’re perception of ‘luxury’ is just popularity. And honestly there are way more Audi’s than Lexus or Beamers in the states. Are A8’s the only Audi’s? Don’t think so. The performance and interior luxury Audi offers are above high-end and car companies are copying them year after year. Your opinion on popularity ain’t the definition of luxury ma man.
Joey ..i agree with you, nowadays people go after cars based on popularity not only in the states, in Africa here as well..In my country Nigeria, the number one luxury car you’ll see in the streets is none other than lexus, after that you’ll see mercedes more often…Audi and porshe are like rollsroyce and bentley, they’re very rare
This car is unbelievably gorgeous inside and out. Bravo Genesis! Well on your way to being one of the best luxury car brands!
Wow how did Lexus let this company kill them on their designs. This is gorgeous!
Mercedes BMW Audi better step up their game in coming years
@Ronmake At the rate they’re going they’ll beat pass Lexus as well. They’ve already past Infiniti .
OMG I want this in satin white. 3 more years until I pay off my current car. If it’s amazing as I think it is, then 2023 GV80 will be mine =-D
I saw the satin white in Asian Petrolheads video and it is beautiful. Easily my favourite colour.
What a punk!
GV70 and GV90 would come out next year. and the Luxury Coupe as well
@todwod what the hell is “twinning”? yuck
Stupid ?
Recording in front of so many people while others are molesting the vehicle must not be easy, but you were like a pro and acted completely unfazed. As someone who suffers from social anxiety I admire your skill.
Honestly, that’s one of the best looking luxury crossovers I’ve seen.
Honestly, this is just a cheaper built Bentayga. For that, I love every bit of it. I may even prefer this design over the Bentayga’s.
Um, no…Son, just don’t
This is what the bentayga should have looked like
The interior/exterior designer from Bentley/Audi/ Lamborghini and Albert from the “M” division of BMW designed this vehicle!!
The GV80 is extremely nice. I am in love with it at first sight. Genesis has style that is just gorgeous, they really are on point. Curb appeal is through the roof. Excellence!! I’m thinking about this for my wife.
One of the designers of this car worked for bently before I think
@BlackFyre genesis hauled incredible talent from other luxury brands to make this happen. Its nice to see it worked.
3:16 I thought those seats were making a noise as they were going down ? great ride lol
LOL me too
There was a motorcycle goin by ?
realstingaz1 okay bro but like I had my speakers on my phone activated while this video was playing
I’m Guilty!!
I want this suv so bad . I’ll wait till the price go down then maybe for my birthday next year i can get it. It looks so good !!! ??????
The price will never go down. I’ll look used in 3-4 years.
Genesis HAS to address their sub par dealership experience. Also the power figures were in the presentation. 2.5T – 300hp and 3.5T 370hp+.
Justin Kelly why a different engine for only 5 more hp. They should’ve just used the 3.3 then
I agree! They need to either offer standalone stores or they need to officially allow Genesis vehicles to split a dealership with Hyundai dealers. It’s pretty much “Hyundai logos everywhere with limited knowledge salespeople selling Genesis vehicles. That’s what I experienced test driving the G70. The vehicle made up for the experience
They’re working on new dealerships and dealership updates. My local one is planning to start construction here soon.
I work at a Hyundai and genesis dealership, they’re too small too really have a full dealership. For now most Hyundai’s are going to be building extensions (another building) on Hyundai lots, and then eventually full blown Genesis properties. But they 100% intend to be their own standalone brand. The GM at my dealership in Peoria is in the board for both corporations. Crazy lol
Ha! Just casually tosses in the word “plebeian” when referring to the Kia/Hyundai alternatives to the GV80. Well done sir.
Adam J. Perlaki he likes to use that word lol
born from plebs haha
He must be a fan of doug demuro to use the word plebian
@TURBO Prepper Doug Demuro is a buffoon!
if only lexus made something like this their sales would be off the charts.
@Striker 50 I care when a Lexus is driven only by old farts and women
their sales are already off the charts
@notanonymous not because of looks. Definitely their history around reliability but definitely not looks or new technology
RX is best selling and Lexus doesn’t need to take risks. Can you imagine the profitability on a model like the RX that barely changes? I’m glad Genesis is making them nervous, which will inspire more innovation.
Lexus will definitely be making it … in next 20 years … when Genesis will have their flying luxury cars ?
This vehicle may sell pretty good here in the U.S.
As a Lexus/Toyota fan, this absolutely destroys any Lexus SUV.
