The white hot part of the Aussie new vehicle market is in for even more changes and will cover a trio of current offerings. We'Ve been living with this week and we'll catch up with the world's nerdiest artificially intelligent Android in this week's musquash so stay with us. But first of all, we've had some feedback, which is always terrific. Thank you very much from comments at cars. God calm today you we had a thena Williamson said evening. I just started listening to your show this afternoon and now I'm. On to my third podcast. I don't know an awful lot about cars, preferring a horse most days of the week. However, your show is so easy to listen to and I'm loving it not to mention learning a lot about cars and the industry. Thanks we're informing somebody off she does it isn't a lot of horse pod, incredible gas, Rutland, also at comments at cars got Combinator uses hi all just a quick note of thanks for keeping it real in the previous podcast. The hindsight self check is novel idea. Now this was where we said: we're going to put a stake in the ground and then revisit it at a certain time and see if their predictions come true. We haven't actually done that yet, but we talked about it made the prediction. Yet no, oh Richard said what do you say: Tesla wasn't gon na be around in two years time so says: that's not often brave by Juno's, hoping to catch the next big story.
And then he says: look in this vein of the next big thing: he's proposing it's the Ford Puma yeah, not the late 90s little two door, coupe thing, but yeah coming small SUV so compete with likes of the cx 3. And what have you breaking news for? You, oh absolutely, is that it has just been confirmed for Australia to replace the Eco sport, which was the basically Indian market, and this year we got 20 20 20. So as as Garth says, it's got this kind of Swiss Army knife engine that's used in a lot of different Ford products. Yes, a one litre, three cylinder EcoBoost, which is the same engine from the focus active, probably yeah, I'm. No doubt so. Apparently, Australia is waiting for an auto which means could have the the scuttle buddies could have had it a bit earlier, but auto production we're staggered after the manuals yeah. I can it'll be the second half of this year. So it'll get apparently 92 kilowatts. 200 Newton metres, which is an awful lot for a 1 litre engine, but to be competitive. There'S no word on price, but I'll have to start under 25k yeah yeah it's, the extra sort of money. Can you fit a washing machine in the back? Most likely? Not remember they lords, the Eco sport, we went to India and they that the big selling point of that car was. He could fit a washing machine in the back machine, but that's right.
It could be a very rudimentary way and then on YouTube. We had Greg Wallace irregular, gives us thumb, but up, thank you very much says: enjoy you're in the shed always but drop off when you get to the Elan. My stuff no, and I know, gives a rat's about his life, so I mean it's, just Owen. I were chatting earlier this year. Price would indicate otherwise, but people do care severe enough Greg and thank you we'll, take that on board and maybe just modify the way we approach the old muster in in future. But he says there is chat about a hybrid Land Cruiser because we've been talking about that as well for a 300 series Land Cruiser and how long the battery will last driving through the soft sand say of Fraser Island all reports from the locals if off Toyota? What for the hot for a hybrid, no yeah for fries Rallo, he says not getting bogged at in skip point when the hybrid battery runs out of towing of towing. The van through says checkout in skip action on YouTube, for what a hybrid Land Cruiser would need to be able to do. Ok right there saying it without you needn't, but surely it have talked what's, probably gon na run out of it still, it would still have its 3.5. I think he's more concerned about just when you need it. Your battery drive, but but a hybrid I mean you've, got the petrol engine anyway, look that's where Greg is and it's very easy Island I've done it yeah with all that now.
We'Ve had a te double D, two eyes Eddy for when tests when Tess says so much focus on Land Cruisers is capable togehter capable towing vehicles due to its diesel engines. Let'S accept that diesel engines will not be mainstreamed due to ever tightening emissions laws and let's move on to petrol, electric or hybrid. That is 100 right. Yes, don't get me wrong. I have diesel engine fan, he's got a couple of diesel vehicles. I think he's got a V Series Merc and bt 50, but his neck stick upgrades going to be a Patrol yeah, but he says let's just move on, which seems fair enough and he also gave a shout out to Richard Berry and said: look our viana that's. What he has saw Aviana is the same pimp, daddy black, similar to the one that Richard drives good, so he's quite happy to see. But he raises a good point. Car companies across the globe at the moment are saying that it's just too expensive to make diesels clean. The diesels are coming to an end, there's, really, no way to save that. I think I think Astoria is gon na be a point of diesel tourism because we'll be the last place on earth. But tell me you just to smell that sweet, sweet smell and drive up a steep hill, yeah I'm gon na give this one a crack. Wang'S young says: greetings from China perfect from great you guys talking about Chinese cattle smiley face just want to clarify that the Hang Ten is indeed a blatant copy of the land crew discussed on route actually to Tian it's, basically for the beach crowd and says it Is a copy of the landcruiser 200 without any wonderful toyota traits blatant ripoffs you'll, never see this.
This is in this day and age when other Chinese manufacturers they're actually putting out decent product it's a shame that such a thing still yeah it's a snow back to the old days. For sure I had to find that it took a lot of searching in Chinese sites to even find their websites right, they're, not a major player. You think those motor shows in China where everything looks exactly like something else. I just want to go the design lab of a Chinese car cut. Meat is just a guy with a photocopier script and a 3d printer I've got one of these. Now, hammer rocks hammer drops, has come in, he says realized yet a brand new half price landcruiser chinese copy. Instead of a 300 series, hybrid landcruiser, heck, no i'd buy 200 series landcruiser instead, but the v8 diesel 200 series resale value might remain high. If the 300 series hybrid engine doesn't cut the mustard in straya yeah, I think it will, though I ought to be honest. I think your engine will be perfectly fine, but the weird thing about lien cruises for me is that it is every time we write saying about Land Cruiser. It goes crazy, there's. This huge following four people are super passionate about it yeah, but they just don't, sell that many like it's, not a you, know, it's, never at a top 10 selling car, but it has this unbelievably passionate, generous dose of whom you have to presume you don't own.
One narrow but yeah yeah, nobody Drive a certain number of kilometers from Sydney they suddenly they become the oh that's, true the ball and cruises: they're out it's, actually, all in the middle it's, a certain latitude 70 series, Land, Cruisers, that's it in Australia anyway, yeah. So then, the cook who's, coming at us from Germany, says Chinese cars. The few I've seen over the last few years here at the IWA, which is the Frankfurt Motor Show, including the upmarket Borg Ward in 2017, and I was there at the Frankfurt, Show and saw that, and I remember the outside. I thought that looks amazingly good, but he says, and the bitin last year were extremely quote a key inside a geeky as in icky e EE, KY that's, what he's gone for crap. So he says I guess this year rav4, so he might be a might be he's coming to Australia. Get me to leave in Australia, tourism. Diesel 2 is our first diesel tourist and Colonel light seed says China. They can build a hospital in a week. Yeah give it three to five years for a Chinese car to be in the top ten in terms of sales, so that's his bold prediction. Well, they are certainly making a run in Australia, though there but they're just about the only car companies there, man Kia, who were making sales. He notes every single month, amazing, yeah, MJ's, killing and their 100 something percent. Last year.
You know their interiors do smell like the back of an ambulance. How are you in the back of it obviously Laughter you're on direct dial now Trumpy this week gave his State of the Union address. We are going to give our State of the Union where chat. So in news this week, we've been looking at Utes and all of our top stories have been around that particular class of vehicle, and the first one was that it seems as though we've had the ceiling in terms of price defined for us, because the Merc exclaim. Yes, to be honest with you that has been one of the slower deaths of experience. It'S been gone for about twelve months. Oh you have experienced it yes! Well, I witness from afar that's your committee of killer debt, that is to officer, but look. I was at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year, it's been a lot of time at the Merc tent trying to get some information about the ex class. Basically, just trying to get anybody on the record and confirm their cutting cut would eventually replace us to build their own building and now they're in at least a marquee have a lining. It was a two man squeeze, but basically spent the whole time just trying to get took to anyone to tell me that they were gon na do I face it did model or a new model that it would be replaced. And of course the answer was silence across the board, so it was a pretty worrying sign then so now the news last week I think, or early this week that it is gon na find it made its demise at the end of May hasn't really surprised anybody.
Well, I mean the cynic in me, says people didn't fall for it. Ya know it was so much innocent yeah. We have a little bit of mercedes benz applied to it, yeah that people weren't willing to literally buy it, buy it as a property acquired as a vehicle. Maybe the thing that blew my mind about that car more than anything else, was that they didn't launch it with the v6 engine. They didn't launch it with the engine that would have actually stood it apart from the Nessun they launched it with the Nissen powertrains. You me that just seemed like a huge mistake, because it just made it so obvious that this thing was initial stars on the front. Well, the thought was that this would be the truck that the boss of the site drives, although more the landowners as they deserve. Your own brand wrong it's a rare case of getting this. Does this apply to your brand? No, is there anyone out there who wants your brand to do this? No people who want you to wanted Mercedes if they do it, secure they bio and every time yeah. They don't wan na drive at night. I just felt like it was it like something just off Chirico if you move a bit further to them to the right on the vehicle spectrum and go to like white boxes on wheels, the badge doesn't matter as much it's like okay what's, the economy? Is it what's a cost of service and and what's the longevity, and then you go to big heavy trucks and it's very much about ah what's the economy, longevity? What am I gon na get out of this thing? Yeah the badge doesn't count as much could be a scania could be a Hino, could be a merc.
You know, but in this huge segment, which is growing so much as a personal used vehicle, it counts for sure yeah I mean you could say that a range of Raptor, for example, was a to me, was a new ceiling of how much people were willing to Pay for dual cab. You know that's that's, big dollars and it's there to look good which the Ranger proves yeah. I think the Mercedes looks so bad. I think it looks alright that you're right that one looks pretty good but, as I said, it's all one, the other day, which is a rare thing, I stopped and had a few deep breaths from behind I'm. Just saying: listen, yeah, that's right! So if you want a nice pass, get in quick, yeah discounts, factory's gon na stop rolling. You know in a month or so yes, so that production, I think, concludes at the end of May. In May yeah you go so I tell you what I did say recently was a Mercedes Benz pure, which I think from memory is the cheapest trim level in the x class range was actually cheaper than the equivalent navara, which is incredible. So if you do want to steal on an exit sound, is it shot, as I do as a dealer demo dealer just right: oh wow, it's, so R. If I miss, I used to get something so wrong as well. You know what I'm gon na put my hand up here and say that I they rolled that car out over months before they launched it, and I was at some unveiling and some ride, alongs and everything else and I got to say I actually thought it would Go well, I put my hand up there and say yeah Mercedes badge on a car that you can claim for tax, etc.
I actually thought, though, I'm not surprised at all that you've got when you're 20 or not just because it's a date. I owe it to being a mistake. You thought it'd be a mistake. Yeah that's right, but I always thought I'm happy to cover getting that rose a total loser now. The other thing that generated a bit of interest was the Chinese use. Yes speaking Chinese and we touched on the three biggest ones that are possibly going to upset the applecart, and you know the accepted order, as we know it at the moment is Hilux and Ranger and those established models. But these frighten at the moment is trying are doing very well yeah, so these are gon na come and mix things up, and the first one is the great wall cannon. Yes, now this car has been incredibly popular with our readers. People are really excited about it. Great wall basically it's their first proper attempt at a global ute, good engines, good equipment, good safety, good design, and they are making no bones about the fact that they are targeting Hilux and Ranger. In fact, it was benchmarked against them on and off. You know a bit of local tune, Michael testing and tuning easing. It is still happening in Australia, as I understand it, so that's the car that they think they can really make a dent with, and the bet better news. I guess for budget conscious. Shoppers is the fact that they also are fully aware of the fact that the the badge is going to demand a cheaper price point.
So, to put it in their words, they said when you see the price on this shoot, it will make. You wonder why am i spending so much on a Ranger? Well, I suppose the other thing is that although it's been an on and off proposition, Great Wall has been around in Australia for a while yeah, so it's, not as if it's a brand new badge that people are having to get their head around. They may not know a hell of a lot about it, but they are aware of it huge success so far. No, this has got anything that changes it well, that's right and look. The other thing is they're, not sure about the Canon name. As I understand so. I might arrive here with the name Canon they will think you might buy camera. It will read it correct and also does this thing have wheels, also keep an eye out for it. We learned last week that it's got has just received. An early market could be in Australia as soon as July, that's very interesting. The other one is the LDV t60, which will be fitted with a new twin turbo engine that is going to give it a new lease on life yeah significantly sonlife for that car. Actually, it gets a new, smaller, but more powerful, more efficient diesel engine look LDV is actually making inroads in the country already their numbers, not not from a huge base to be fair, but the numbers are certainly going in the right direction and they feel like this.
Would be the shot in the arm? They need to really make that next step, it's further ammunition to that an efficient. Well, here we are talking about Diesel's being on the way out that that a two liter diesel has become acceptable in this market that's, rather than I couldn't put my wouldn't ever I mean it's, not even any, even the Raptor in the old days back in there, As we were talking about before the car base, you Daisy, if Ford said, I could use the two later edited people had supply so that one apparently is going to have 160 kilowatts 480 Newton yeah, which is a fish isn't, a really sizable chunk, yeah, and then There are other still rumors going around at the moment unconfirmed. At this point, I must admit that they're looking at the V a v6 engine, so they have a partnership with jeeps engine supplier, so they talk there's talk of that engine, making a start as well, but man I'm confirmed at this point what we do know the Smaller engines coming we're talking about Chinese inroads into this market and an mg amazingly in to my mind, has has just been a huge hit in the last 12 months or so, and they will have the mg extender. Yes, well, they might so just just to put EMG in perspective. For a moment, they sold almost a thousand cars last month, which again is up 82.7 on on the year last on the month last year, and really put some on track to sell.
You know eleven thousand cars in Australia this year if they maintain that speed. That is really a lot of cars – it's, not quite a top ten player, but it's, not a million miles, because how many times have we all heard the spiel that says we're gon na come in? We were aimed for about 5000 in the first year and we'll probably get to 10k in three years and here's mg without any well without any fanfare, really yeah let's just come in and done it and yet a lot of advertising. There was a couple of billboards near the airport for a while yeah very much price piece, but it's like it's the story of like have you got a car that looks good yes at a very cheap price. People can have it at least put in there. Consider and the other critical earlier that mg has gotten right, and I don't know why more more manufacturers don't do this because it's a blueprint, that's proven successful so many times in the past, most recently with care, but they got the design right. They'Ve got the price front and then they stuck a gigantic warranty on it. I think it's, seven years from memory or even eight years. My I think also limited as the like. The advertising comms may have been the positioning line. They'Ve got, I can't, remember the exact words, but, to paraphrase it was something like an SUV with a certain amount of M genus.
You know they're they're, trying to leverage that historical aspect of the brand. I think that's clever yeah, because it does have enough cash. A out there that people walk honor relation between the original image, smart there's, some mg DNA in there that we've been thinking about this holiness they have like the kind of a tart nice eats some kind of connection when he's in the car. That feels a tiny bit empty, that's nice. There was one one or two little touches. You go I'll just do it there's a bit of British, it name correct now, on the extent of actually I take you back one step to the LDV for a moment again. This is just an indication of how seriously Chinese car companies are taking the Australian market, so the LDV did a t60 trail rider, which was their top spec T 60 years, which I remember we sang sounded like a cheap pair of jeans and your mum would only Buy you the trail ride correctly. Catch of that is that they partner with Woking, sure and others. You develop a kind of local suspension tune for that vehicle which they put out on the t. 60 trail rider it's now across the entire LD of a range and will continue when the new engine comes so again. The it's the kia blueprint the high end, a blueprint, aha local tuning built for Australian conditions, etc, etc. So that'll help that so the energy extender is, as I understand it, closely related to the LDV T 60, closely closer than a navara annex class.
That'S put it now that car is. I must admit that car is still something of a question mark for the Australian market, but it went from being no we're, not gon na. Take it to the bosses over there saying yeah, look there's potential for all vehicles. We want to continue to grow. Product is definitely going to be our biggest thing, we're evaluating it. Who knows so their argument, I guess, is if you can take a you that has L Davies kind of abilities. I suppose, and then stick this already known mg badge which is hitting on the right heading in the right direction. Anyway, on it that's probably a recipe, I think, it's a further stretch to try and leverage some mg brand equity, so that's that's the Chinese invasion and then we're talking about electric, yes, the subject of the year and and the first one that may stir the pot Is the Ford f series? Yes now the fact that the f series would be here at all is is a big question yeah, but then an electric one is another step ahead of that yeah, but that had a prototype. A Ford has had a prototype f, 150. Pulling some pretty impressive stunts like drawing along hundreds of rail carriers, it's five hundred thousand kilos of whatever so it's it's certainly got the goods it would appear. I'Ve got some good mail that the f series is definitely on the cards for Australia in the next generation.
So as a as a petrol engine as a product as a product and for deserve credit, especially in the American market, for really pioneering the idea of one of their big good old boy, trucks going electric, so everyone else is talking about it now, GM's just done The Hummer yeah there is gon na be any life into the Hummer brain electric truck, but we're really were the first to do and and yeah. I think it's gon na be amazing. Well, it's it's America's top selling vehicle yeah right now it remains vehicle on the planet. Amazing trailers, that is incredible. A fun 50 is the best selling vehicle it puts our market. Now then, you've got riffian now riffian has picked up, investors in the shape of Amazon and Ford has has tipped in money, so there are 1td evocatively named one two yeah is allegedly coming here is coming. I spoke to the boss of the company, the New York Motor Show last year, so absolutely launching in Australia get the American launch out of the way. First and I'll come back to you with timing, so they've definitely got an eye on us. That is the car that I'm probably most excited about the r1 t. It is genuinely also aside from it. Looking pretty good, I think it's it's got a really interesting different kind of look to it that I, for one find appealing yeah what what's, underneath that that that makes it different.
So battery technology it's the scale it is, basically, they pioneered the skateboard platform that's. Why that's, why all the car manufacturers bought into them all the critical stuff is, is based in that is in that puzzle at the bottom, and you just put a sort of new shell on top yeah. Hence the reason the r1 T and our 1s, which is the SUV version, essentially identical okay, but this is the chief engineer who told us at the beginning of 2019 that basically, it is a proper off road. Truck 14 inches of drunk of ground clearance. 45 degree inclines 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3 seconds 4.5 ton towing, like it's. You know a 643 kilometer range like it takes a lot of so much space, it's yeah huge inside you talk about the iPass and the advantage of electric. I said what I love about: designing those cars is I'll. Just put that name up. Thank you. Okay. He was saying everything's out of the way everything's between the wheels he said. Oh you have so much freedom design. You don't have with a pitch with this truck yeah. He said why aren't people were taking more chances. Give me a skateboard I'm gon na design, something really interesting on top of it yeah. So that gives that much free, a really good inside his name. Yes, I've got a counter argument to that. I speak to the Mercedes as I'm chief recently even McCallum, never he.
He was basically saying that that was definitely the push at the time and IANS been supporting that this idea that we had all this creative free, but first name basis. Yes, I call importing – I call in my dog in Texas, anyway yeah, but their argument now is like we've that approach it needs to be baby steps. They said if you design a car two out of the ordinary people just run away from it. You need it needs to be a kind of progressive approach, so we will eventually get to a point where cars look. Nothing like the Casa tonight, but in stepping stone it's got to grab that segue and go with it because the other easier side, the truck yeah talk about looking different yeah and also looking questionable from an ADR point of view in terms of safety. Compliance that from a coefficient of drag the rest words allowed on this plug car, will look because a big box, yes and and but it's allegedly coming here, and I think we are looking at a concept yeah but that's. The theme of what's coming down the pipeline. Yeah at Tesla some years away, I would I would well he's laying it as we speak and he's selling the thing like people that take he's taking deposits on people making their own so many great copies out of Russia, then it looks awful, alright. Well, look that is really the State of the Union it's a the Chinese invasion, it's about the disappearance of the F fast it's, about new electrified options, and it is a hot part of the market and it's gon na get even hotter I'm.
Throwing one last thing in here: this is specifically for the fans who love it. When we talk about the Ford Ranger yeah. Well, do it last time I promise just to give you a little update for 2020 Ford and Toyota. Ford has closed the gap basing into the Hilux, so Ford sold. 2624 ranges in January, yeah Toyota sold two thousand nine hundred and sixty that's, very good, so it's close so, and I do think that the Ranger will probably ever take the hi Lexus. So just a few v8, a few v8 range well that's right, there's, the v8 there's talk of the v8 Ranger coming this year or next and is also they've just patent or trademark, the name FX for max, which is supposed to be for like a baby Raptor. So, with a couple of new products, a couple of new trim levels, I wouldn't be surprised. Your male gesto is still that the v8 for a range it would be confined to the Raptor version, or would it be a mainstream offering, as will I be able to buy just a range of v8 that I don't know what what car they're planning it for, But it is probably you'd have to think in terms of price. It would have to be the Raptor yeah because it would be the closest to whatever the final price, and I just think, the Ranger for keeping forward alive for ya, Ranger and Mustang than to two things that have kept the lights on.
And you know soon to be pema, yes and anyway, that's right, but now we'll talk about. Where will real things back a bit to the real world? And in fact, the preceding week and Steve will check in with what you have been driving for a thumbnail kind of overview on what you make of it and it's a Nissan product and it's in fact spoilers Pathfinder past. But so I've just spent a few days in New Zealand driving all of their kind of upgrades, but the Pathfinder was one that struck me because I'd had one previously for six months as a long term. If a cars go – and I didn't I'd never really loved it, I didn't love the look of it. It always felt a bit if it's soft a bit light or whatever, and if this was a transformative, it was so much better right. I thought it actually looked, particularly following mine. Looked more like a Subaru right, oh there's, a strange kind of complement. You see like an attractive Subaru. I kind of like a Subaru without the weakness. So you're saying this is in Mercedes and super is soft, surprised how much I enjoyed it because I really was happy to hand the last one back in this wing. This seemed like a car. I would live it. Okay, so difficult to bond with the old one and so it's really about it. The way it looks the way it looks and the way it handles out there's the steering with so much better performance fires in, but we drove some really challenging roads and while the Patrol made me feel a little bit carnival ride, the the path part was much More enjoyable, sorry, just from ami how many seats, seven, seven, six, which I was the the bonus with a seven seat, thing: yeah, very practical and just the right size.
For me, I didn't need something as big as a patrol I'd be happy with the five and where'd you put in Callum. Was he in the third row? Would you have him in the front? No, I think it was more. You were correcting someone usually and so eta for Australia has got to be soon. Then you know, I think you put your orders in man, yeah yeah, I think so, very good. Okay, thank you for that and Chesto moving on to you another nice it's, a nice and festival, but it's. Actually, a fourteen cedar, which is no matter I've, been driving. The x trail in trick so in trick is the the new sort of trim level that I believe launched on the Neva flavor. So this thing is based on the STL, which is 37 700. This one starts at 38, 700, currently it's a 500 unit limited run, but it adds seems like 19 inch, alloys, a bose 8 speaker, stereo bonnet protected window shields, so there's lots of sort of extra kit that you get for actually, which is what turns out to Be not that much more money actually house the Grasse or something yep under the bonnet 2.5 litre petrol with CVT, auto 126 kilowatts, 226 Newton meters what's the CVT like it's. Ok, I mean you know it's a bit saying. Those 3 meters must always make me they strike for the exactly so, and I would describe that car.
As being surprisingly, you know comfortable it's capable it feels like it's, not too big it's like perfect. Actually, the perfect size for my life it's easy to park easy to drive, no no shutter patrol based issues, but it does feel old inside. I feel, like I'm, always harping on about the infotainment setups in cars, but this is a particularly old school one. It'S kind of Bluetooth audio where you can play songs from your iPhone, but no apple, carplay, android, auto just put care play in the cache go yeah, but I think it's Rob back rolling through some products and just for Athena's benefit. Cbt means continuously variable transmission. Yet at odds of auto it's, basically rubber bands on yeah that's right so rather than step Toledo. No, we think he on stantly vomitus trash yeah, but yeah, but apart from that, I I'm really impressed with it very good all right. Thank You, Chester, I'll, move on. I was driving a Kia Sportage, it was the S diesel and all wheel drive just over 35000, which in this part of the market, is a decent ask. I would have thought 2 liter turbo diesel 8 speed, Auto it's, just under four point: five meters, long so it's in that kind of medium size for SUVs, and I would say the word that sums it up is pleasant. I found I found it was pleasant to look at it's it's, slightly it's somewhat divided in terms of the way it looks it's a little bit out there, but I like it and to drive it.
I found it comfortable. I found it very kind of fluid on the road. You know not not much friction in terms of the way the engine works with the transmission works with the whole car. I found it very easy to drive yeah good and a very pleasant thing to be in through the week, so so kia, as we know this year, is remains on a tear. It was one of the highly I think was the only top 10 brand to post sales again, which it did pretty much all last year as well and based on the backup product like that, yes isn't pleasant. I was in a cycle. Okay, straight speaking of people. We know and love it's time for musquash Music, so here we go. This I'm gon na resurrect a segment that that we had some time ago, but we haven't had anything sufficiently annoying to bring it out of the out of the filing cabinet. I want to blow a gasket. Oh I want to blow a gasket go for it about StarLink. I think it's getting to the point where I'm genuinely grinding my teeth in grinds my gears and I'm guarding my teeth. That is so. The Atlantic ran a story that reminded me of this whole saga and they say that the night sky will never be the same because of StarLink so last year his name is Christoph. Stanek is an astronomer astronomer at Ohio State University and he got a letter from one of his neighbors about a shed that they wanted to build and it was going to be a foot higher than the fence between their properties and was he okay with that? But it made him think he's a shed, and I get my say whether or not be a foot higher the whole night sky is being filled with satellites and I've got no reason whatsoever, that's right and it just made him angry and I'm just as angry as He is so apparently SpaceX did kind of send a letter for approval to federal authorities in the United States who controls the sky hill.
The required comment period open to the public, the American public, so we've we in Australia and other countries are good, no say in this. This is just all happening, and the satellites have is, as a transpires turned out to be much more reflective than even SpaceX thought. They would be so the ones that are up there create this little trail of like a string of pearls going across the sky and astronomers are reporting. All of their vision is coming back with kind of white streaks across it, so it's difficult to actually see what they're doing, and we knew this but it's now coming to pass in a much bigger way, and I find it tremendously frustrating it kills me. This is the case: I'll be more they'll, be far more of them of them in the northern hemisphere, which will make our skies the the place to come so come and ride these diesel and check so season 90, and not only that it's on for young and Old there's, another company called oneweb, which is launching its own satellites, so we're going to have this competition in space. But what rules here can anybody just start firing it's one of those things where regulations or some kind of control has to catch up just happened. You know someone's big idea and Commerce has got ahead of the game. Yeah and there's no regulation around, but the problem with some of my tears are doing. That, too, is they like most startup subscribe to that fail, fast philosophy, right, yeah, so we're just try it we'll roll the dice and see what happens kind of thing, but you send these things up and go.
Oh actually, they turned out to be far more reflective than we thought we've just reached by a thousand thousand about satellites running into each other and how crowded it is Spacek. They want to deploy 1500 satellites this year, Wow 1500 they're. Only small, like I don't, know how, but they know I can send up a whole spray of them with with one launch and anyway, but you're gon na provide. But the idea is they're. Gon na provide us with satellite broadband, so you'll be able to get satellite broadband from start leaking straight, but if you wanted, you have to buy a dish on Twitter. Someone shouted out to it. Last eel I'm, not saying Ilan. Can you put my fears to rest that there's nothing dangerous about using 5g? Are we not saturating ourselves in more exposure to EMF radiation and at higher frequencies? I love technology, but I don't like being a forced guinea pig which Ilan says get this nothing medically dangerous, but 5g is getting a bit too greedy with their spectrum land grab a foot hold on you've just gone for a Space Gray about someone and a lot Of the comments were of the same yeah Murdock, because the spectrum he wants to use those satellites for in Australia provide a bit. Broadband is the same one used by Foxtel and Fox delivered. He said: no, you can't do it, so they go the Austrian government which might control the regulations for the spectrum here, but can't just haul the sky, because Americans control that right, yeah Murdock, is gon na try and stuff give it Murdoch controls both the Australian government And now Twitter, which of course is a rich source of alumnus, and we were mining that this week and Ilan said what.
If there was an AI program and to want to pick as many strawberries as possible, and so it cultivated nothing but strawberries on all of Earth's land, then it would be strawberry fields forever. That'S. A very funny joke is that I've, no idea ones people written if he, if he didn't, he wouldn't credit the author anyway, but so MSN came back with an image of the Joker and is in latest iteration of the Joker one is Joaquin Phoenix and with him. Next to it doing his daddy dance from the Chinese factory opening – and I didn't know whether that was a friendly job like ha you're, just a joker or actually you're a worrying clown. That was quite then Marc Bronte says when this kind of thing gets 85000 likes. You know things have gone horribly wrong and you now have a lot of the same followers as Justin Bieber, but most actually on the record. Saying he's worried about AI yeah, actually worried and he's, making stupid, yeah he's worried is actually what he loves. Yeah yeah, so also on the Twitter's Elon says: Tesla will hold a super fun AI party hackathon at my house, with the Tesla AI autopilot team. In about four weeks, invitations going out soon to which even Evan par Ness is posted up a pic of the dinosaurs and all the dinosaurs are labeled, Toyota and Ford and GM, and my hair and the MIDI or coming out of the sky that once again they're All looking at like that can't be good, which was me before is test our cousin Rodney, so he's gon na blow them away, but what I can't help think he is.
The meteorite wouldn't have been in good shape when it hit over five. Precisely it seems so ironic anyway, and we move on. We touched on it earlier the share price as we speak, 748. So nearly seven and forty nine was six hundred and forty last week it hit a high of nine hundred and sixty one dollars. Eighty six, that on Tuesday, it was really close to that one thousand dollar a share. Now it grew, in my view, a because it converted from like a car company stock to a tech. Stop yeah, like people's mindset, particularly in the investor market brokers, were seeing it more as a tech company. The batteries, though yeah the electric and all their stuff, but also people, are sheep yeah and once that started to happen, it was just a classic kind of push up to a bubble yeah, but then it dropped back to where we are now a couple hundred dollars. In my view, because of profit, taking people went okay, now's the time I'm gon na, sell it, but also cause coronavirus, may impact deliveries out of their new Chinese. No chance, oh that's right I'd, be a big plank of their future. Growth is just under a cloud at the month yeah. So again, that kind of sentiment is everything and everyone falls off it. I heard a rumor the other day that I believe is true, but I'm still sticking to my no research policy for the pot nice that never that's your way of a lot well.
Ian texted me last night that company's certain car companies in China are actually closing some of their plants down temporarily and producing and and like sort of retooling them in the short space or you reusing the space to help produce medical equipment. I see a virus no, but I think using the space as production facilities or all the plants, precise surgical devices, so it's becoming quite serious over there, and my last comment for the day before we move on is that, yes, there is just to give a bit Of credit for a moment: yes, he is definitely shaking up the old cart of a car world, but he will not be eliminating it. It'S, not it's, not an asteroid crash into Earth to take out the old players, but what he has done as he inspired them to try and catch up, and I think he does deserve a have evolved a bit yeah. It runs kind of coming on board people. Apple stocks are worth a lot because they sell a lot of iPhones yeah and if you want one, you can go and buy one differences there, but is a debris. Issues is the same elsewhere than they are in Australia. I think I'm, not sure that's the case you'll know but, as you were saying gave up my deposit back I'm. Just never getting without for more III was way more. Has you got the deposit back? I think he was in the process too.
He was having a woman. I didn't really want his money back cause. He doesn't. I think, I'm right in saying that, as a model 3 is the best selling premium car in Europe at the moment. Is it not? Yes, there must be delivering them. Some very seriously hit the number of orders. They'Ve got. Yes, your iPhone's feel that far short of orders Apple and with that we have reached the finish line. Your is the driver to park on the side. Road nearby gets out walks up to the guy and ask him, sir, why are you eating grass bloke says I'm hungry have no money, so all I have to eat is grass.
