The brand new 2021 kia sell tose yeah. I know blew my mind: q 2021 and it's just february of 2020, but of course that's how the car world works, but anyways let's get into this new model. This is a new small crossover from kia and it's cousin vehicle, of course, is the hyundai kona. Now, what makes it special well first of all the color. This is a really interesting color it's called star bright, yellow, but in some lights it looks almost green it's got a very interesting hue to it. Let me know in the comments section below what do you think I have a feeling? Some of you are really gon na love it, and some of you are probably gon na, say it's not to your taste, but overall, the exterior design is very different from its sibling, the Kona and the front. We have a much more traditional light pattern, so the Kona has those separated daytime, running lights, turn signals and then main high beams. This car it's all integrated into one unit, and this is a top trim, SX model which gives it some really cool things that we're gon na look at in a minute here. I do like this textured finish to the grille so rather than having one piece of silver trim that's just flat, he actually gave it these little bumps and I think the grill itself looks pretty sporty and the nice thing is a lot of the vehicles in this Class have fake grills or grills that are blocked off, but this one it's, almost all real, coming along the side, you'll see one of my favorite parts of the exterior design and that's right down here the wheels these are a set of 18 inch wheels and I Personally, love the actual inlay, I like the little red around the kia logo in the center there.
It looks a lot more premium than this vehicles price point. Something we'll talk about in a minute now, you'll notice. Here on the side, this one is an all wheel. Drive spec, but it also comes in front wheel, drive if you so desire, and this one has a contrasting black roof and there's a lot going on to this design. You know a lot of a lot of the small crossovers feel like they were kind of thrown together by a design studio and put out to the market, but this let's just look at the side, so we have a silver frame with a flat black inserts. We have a black roof and, of course, we have the star bright, yellow with flat slivered door, handles piano black here on the lower trim and flat black above it and right, underneath it that's a lot of different colors, all contrasting at the same time. But personally, I think it works beautifully on this new model. I might prefer this design over the Kona one thing you'll notice up here. Is he swept back d filler with a little bit of a kink in it and then that meets small rear spoiler in the rear, and this one also has the roof bars. But one cool thing about them is like these little fins that come up at the end here kind of unique let's. Take a look under the hood now there's, actually, two different engine options, depending on how much you want to spend the base engine is a two liter, naturally aspirated four cylinder, but this one has the upper trim: turbocharged engine 1.
6 liters and it's mated to a 7 Speed: dual clutch automatic 7: now, if you get the basic car, you'll find a 2 liter na like we talked about, but that one is mated to a CVT. The dual clutch is definitely an interesting choice and let me show you the power numbers here on the sticker. 195, 175 4 horsepower so a little bit less horsepower a little bit more torque, and there is your final MSRP, twenty nine thousand four hundred and eighty five dollars but it's worth noting that you can get this car for a lot more affordably. If you go for a basic trim, this one is the one they typically give to the journalists which is loaded with every bell and whistle let's get into some of those bells and whistles, because there's a bunch of them. First of all, the key. This trend kind of started on the stinger, but it's got this really cool key, where the buttons are actually along the slide there, rather than on the front there's. Your lock it's almost like a trigger, then unlock, but one thing you'll notice on this key, which is a little bit different, is there is one button on the front, and that is for your remote start. So if you live in cold environments, you can simply start it up remotely. Let it warm up outside before you jump on in, have it all nice and warmed up and ready to go, but here is the interior it's somewhat similar to its Hyundai Kona sibling.
Ten point three inch infotainment screen here very well laid out with get this a two nub. I just love it when manufacturers incorporate a two nub into their vehicles because it makes tuning the radio finding the perfect channel so much easier, absolutely love that feature. I know. It'S kind of silly as I'm rejoicing over tuna, but in so many modern cars it's simply just going away forever navigation. Of course, this one has a Bose audio system. Let'S take a look at the radio settings here: Sirius XM with the record functionality, nice and easy to use. Let me know in the comment section below I know a lot of people really don't like when the radio system kind of juts out over the dashboard like that. But I really don't mind it all that much. This trim also has automatic climate control you'll see here, but you'll notice this little button. You actually have three different settings of automatic climate control, so you have high medium and low fan, speed, so it's automatic, but it's. Also, hey you get to pick how much air is blowing on. You will deal with the temperature kind of automatic, which is a little bit unusual. Of course, if you want to do manual functionality, you can do all that right here, traditional gear lever. I love this I'm, getting really tired of push buttons and futzing with little knobs chunky Park, Earth, neutral Drive and sport down on the transmission up on the transmission.
Much easier to use, and so many of the rotary, knobs or selectable things that a lot of manufacturers are going to that's awesome and take a look at this. A center differential lock. Just like the Kona, you can lock this puppy into all wheel drive. This is getting so rare nowadays in the crossover you know, some of the old school ones like this is Yuji Suzuki sx4. Excuse me he had a center diff lock, but it's largely going away for computer based systems. Now, if you want it to just be automatic, you can you know normal smart sport, it will revert to a front wheel, drive primary system. Well, I love having the ability to just BAM, lock up the center and permanently engage all wheel, drive good job Kia, good job Hyundai, for letting me do that leather wrap, steering wheel feels really nice in the hand steering wheel functionality. You'Ve got your volume here. Cruise control there with radar cruise control, so even for under 30 grand you can get this vehicle equipped with a lot of luxury features that just a few years ago, would have been extremely expensive to equip right down here. You'Ll find your lane keep traction, control off, start, stop and ban. Look at that one button. What didn't I get on my fully loaded cell toes, let me know Kia. I want to know because I thought I had every option here, but push button start here in the center and then down here heated seats, three position, heated seats and look even hill descent control.
So, even though this is not meant to be a hardcore off roader, it does have some off roading capability now further down here: 180 watt outlet with on the right side, two USB ports. So we have a standard one here and then an illuminated one which they suggest you use for charging your phone that'll, give me your highest output and then, above that you get your Qi. Wireless charger, it's a fairly good size, I'd love to show you but I'm. Actually, using this phone to record, I think it will hold this phone, though even the iPhone max it should fit in there. Just fine much like what Twitter's bingo doing, they've actually included stitching here a cloth across a dash, and I really do like these new speaker bets see if I can get a good shot of that too much glare. So, rather than just going for a flat black plastic thing know if you can see that, but they actually give you a little bit of texture to it. There you go and even the lower one. How cool is that it's that small attention to detail that really makes the vehicle feel a lot more premium? That is another thing that increases the premium. Feeling is right down here: a power driver's seat, so you've got lumbar control. There you've got down you've got up and you can really set this up to be as comfortable as you'd. Want it to be. Sell tous is embroidered here into the floor.
Mats there you have it your first look at the interior I'm. Finding it to be fairly comfortable now I can't talk about driving impressions. Those are embargoed until later in the week, but I can tell you that the seats feel like seats. They'Re, not bad they're, not overly soft, but they're, also not overly firm it's. A pretty good compromise and the rear seat legroom is impressive, even for such a small crossover tons of knee room and even look at this tons of headroom as well, which is somewhat rare in some of these models just to set up for my driving position. I'M. 6 foot 2 – no issues whatsoever. They also give you a USB port back here and a nice large cubby, a couple of rear vents. Now the rear seats also have these crazy, textured, speaker, grilles and in the middle hold that down a couple of cup holders. Even the center seat is not too unbearable. You do have a small hump here in the middle, all wheel, drive car that's, not too uncommon, but overall, very usable rear seat, one of the best in the business in this class. To be honest, though, this will compete with vehicles like well the Kona, of course, but other really small crossovers, like the Jeep renegade, for example, Honda, HRV that's, all in this class in the rear. I get actually a lot of Buick from this rear end. With this silver stripe that extends into the taillights that's, not a bad thing, though it's not a bad looking me rent and then what I thought were.
Exhaust pipes actually do nothing, no rear diffuser that really doesn't do much, although they do include the silver accent down at the bottom, to make it look a little bit more rugged. Where do they put the real exhaust pipes, let's see if we can find them huh there? It is so it's, well hidden underneath so that thing I was saying at the beginning, it's nice having real vents that doesn't necessarily extend to the rear engine and trim badging. This is the SX turbo GDI, gasoline direct injected, a non power liftgate, but it's nice and light and reveals the trunk, and even with my small camera bag back here, tons and tons of rear storage capacity, yeah it's a very, very well packaged vehicle. If you ask me a lot of functionality in here and even a spot for a space saver spare tire, the seats will fold down, pull that latch and you got a completely flat load floor with a parcel shelf in terms of usability. It really doesn't get much better than this in the class and for value eyes, not much better, either even fully loaded under 30 grand decent amount of interior volume, a lot of luxuries for the price and then there's a color. Let me know in the comment section below I really do want to read your feedback. You liked the color and you hate the color and be sure to stay tuned to TfL car, because we've got a full first drive review coming of this vehicle.
I will talk about how it drives how it performs and look at some of the features more in depth. Tell you know how the functionality really is, but as always, this is Tommy with the Fastlane car, giving you your first in person. Look at the Kia Soul.
