It there it's the s grade, which means it's a cheap one, now being a rio. I could have done this a number of ways. I could have done it in my undies Music or i could have brought the boyfriend i was out, but i didn't, because even though this is an affordable and little car, it's still a very serious purchase, and i didn't want to distract you with my with my Markers so what i'm going to do here is we're, going to stay, focused i'm, going to break this review up into the good news and the bad news about the new kia rio s. So what do you want to start with good or bad all right? Bad news, then let's go oh now. If you want to read the full review, go to carsguy.com.u, you can read it all there, oh, and give us a like and subscribe all right, bad news! Oh, if you get yourself the s grade, you are buying the cheapest version of the rio, so those aren't alloy wheels, no they're, hubcaps and statistically one of them will end up leaning against the telegraph pole at an intersection for the rest of its life. Look if it really bothers you, you can option alloy wheels if you want. These headlights are halogen, and so, while they're fine in the city, where there are street lights on a dark road, they are in no way – and i mean no way as good as the led headlights that are on the top of the range gt.
Next, the s gray doesn't have a proximity key, so you'll need to beep it like that to lock it and unlock it. Another thing is that you don't get push button start no you've actually got to stick the thing in the thing to start the car and while we're here can i just point out all the hard plastics on here and on here and that's fine, but where it's Not fine is on the armrest, because after about 20 minutes, your elbow is red raw, oh and because it's, the s gray, the entry gray there's a whole lot of blank plastic panels of stuff that you could have got. But you didn't, because you got the cheap car, including this one here right here, where you've got a blank panel here is where the cruise control should be look not having cruise control is a bit of a bummer, but what's. Even worse, news is that the escarade doesn't even have advanced safety tech like aeb, autonomous emergency braking or lane keeping assistance, and you can't even option a safety pack that's, not good news at all. Now the kia rio s doesn't have a stop start fuel saving system. Only the top of the range grade has that no and this four cylinder engine with the automatic is a little bit thirsty. Kier says that, after a combination of open roads, urban roads, all that type of thing that you do, you should be seeing about 7.
8 liters per hundred we're. Seeing close to that at the moment, trip saying 7.7, but i haven't done any urban driving. Yet now the mileage that you can see on the screen now is what we measured at the fuel pump after we drove it as you're, probably going to drive it doing the daycare drop offs and the motorway miles, and all of that either way. That'S still pretty thirsty and that's the bad news, but don't worry there's way more good news. First, the price and really this is the goodest news, the s list for twenty thousand three hundred and ninety dollars. But at the time i did this care was doing a drive away deal for nineteen, nine, ninety, so you're saving about 4k or so kia, says and that's on on road costs like stamp duty and dealer delivery and red joe and third party insurance. That makes it cheaper than rivals like the mazda 2 and the toyota yaris. Now the warranty seven years, unlimited kilometers. Now, who knows what type of state the planet's going to be in five years time, but one thing's certain, and that is your kia – will have another couple of years left on its warranty. Servicing is also kept and, as you can see there, kia has a guide to how much you can expect to pay for each service, but basically you're, looking at less than three thousand dollars over seven years. That'S good news, also good news other looks when kia updated.
The rio, it was given a new face with this super pinched in grill and that restyled bumper, i like the shape of the rio, because even though it's a small car it doesn't look, dinky or or wussy. Actually, the rio is smaller than small it's classed as a light car, because it's only 4065 millimeters long, which means nothing. So here it is in richard berry's yeah, it's 2.13 richard berries and even though it's little it's, big inside and that's good news. That is a 325 litre boot and look if you need any more luggage than that you should just move there. The rear doors are big and open wide, making it easy to get in and there's surprisingly, good leg room and head room in the back. Even for me, at 191 centimeters tall there's also really good cabin storage. Look there. There there there there and there there's a usb port there, a 12 volt outlet there, a usb port there everywhere very good news. The 2020 update also added this larger display screen and it also added wireless apple, carplay and android, auto to both awesome features. You know what, even though there are a lot of hard plastics in this cabin it's, still a really stylish place and yeah sure you don't get leather seats, but these cloth ones are fine. I call this pattern business as usual now there's one last final bit of good news, and that is how it drives.
So let's go for a drive, four cylinder engine, six speed automatic! You can get a manual in the rio s. If you want one uh the car that we're testing, though, has got the auto look, it's, not good news or bad news, it's, just news really um. The transmission is smooth it's, a regular auto, which is good, so it doesn't have that jerky sensation that you get with a dual clutch and that's what's on the top of the range rio. The engine is very meh, it does the job it doesn't really accelerate. It. It'S not going to get a promotion so but it's adequate, there's enough power for overtaking on highways, or you know moving in traffic when you need to quickly, but the good news. The good news is the way that this car feels to drive. So, even though the engine is a bit, you know ordinary and the transmission is, you know nothing really to rave about the car feels great to drive um, and by that i mean the ride is really comfortable. Even on a you know, coarse chip, bitumen road like this, which is terrible, um, the ride's, really good uh you feel planted as well. So you know when you're out there in the traffic or on a country road like this, you, you don't, feel tiny. You feel quite secure on the road too. I like that about the car. Another thing i like about the car is the steering the steering is is really really good for a car for this price at this end of the segment and then finally it's the handling the handling is really good for a car at this end of the market.
At this price, point i'd be quite happy to give the key to this card. To my mom or my dad, or my sister or my cousin and i'd, be totally confident that they could get in it and drive it straight away and feel like they've been driving. It for years that's what it feels like the seats feel good. The pedals under my feet feel good. The driving position is good. This is a 20 dollar car. There are cars twice the price of this that feel nowhere near as good to drive. Apparently it had a bit more grunt Music. All right let's do a little bit of a wrap up. Shall we okay, so the bad news, hubcaps headlights, hard plastics? Remember our t elbow no proximity. Key it's got one of these. You'Ve got a beeper to get in, and you've got to put the thing in the thing to start it not a major issue, but still not great news, it's a little bit thirsty, but by far the worst news is the lack of advanced safety equipment. There'S no aeb, but there's, so much more good news like the price, the warranty, the servicing costs, it's practical for a tiny little car and it's good to drive. Now, even though it is the entry grade s, it still comes with some good features like the large display screen and apple carplay and android, auto it's wireless. Look.
