Until now, all zeds have been named after their displacement. The 240z had a 2.4 liter engine and that theme continued through to the 3.7 litre engine of the current 370z. This time reports around the industry suggest we can expect nissan's twin turbo 3 litre vr30 engine, but because 300z would seem like a step backwards. It'S expected the vr, 30s 298 kilowatt output or 400 horsepower will form the basis of its name. As for its styling, the zed proto concept presents a thoroughly retro look doing away with the 370z's modern lines and hooked lights in favor of a design that pays tribute to the original 1969 s3240z, with a little of 1989's z32 300zx thrown into the mix. The 240z sugar scoop headlights rule the show up front while other s30 inspiration points include the big wedge shaped bonnet bulge, pointy, snout and boxy grill. Opening the side or profile view is a relatively smooth and simple affair. While the roofline and much of the glass house looks to be carry over from the 370z, which lends credence to reports, the new zed will ride on an updated version of the fm architecture that underpins the current model. The rear is where we see the z32 300 zx's influence with a wide gloss black panel masking embedded bar shaped tail lamps configured in the same quad layout, that featured on the z32 inside the zed. Proto gets a crucial redesign, replacing the 370z tired cabin with a modern and premium look highlights include slender satin, bronze vents above a low set infotainment display with touch sensitive controls and physical air conditioning dials, along with a broad 12.
3 inch instrument display behind a brand new Steering wheel design, the center console appears to be a clever redesign of the existing unit out of the 370z, while other carryover items include the gauge pods in the dash and the circular door pulls save money where you can nissan we're, just glad to be getting another. Zed another thing: we're glad of a manual transmission. The vr30 engine had previously been offered in automatic form. Only although a 2018 concept car the club sport 23 showed a manual version wasn't out of the question now we know it'll be an option on the order form. As for when orders will open it's, anybody's guess for now, we hope it'll be next year, but some reports suggest it could be as distant as 2023, by which time the 370z will be 14 years old oof.
