This one is the sporty a spec version in this video. We are going over all the really cool gizmos on the outside and the inside we're going to take it for a ride, but, more importantly, we're going to give it a puppy score because let's be honest. None of you really want to look at my ugly mug you're, going to be more excited to see little blaze over there. Now blaze is my four and a half month old, bernie's, mountain dog and you're gon na help me in the review aren't you buddy, yes, because you're very photogenic, yes, you are and you're probably a little smarter than i am too so let's go. Take a look at the exterior of the tlx place. Come on good boy. What do you think dog? I think it's a good looking car. The new tlx is an entirely new design for acura. There are some trademarks that are carried over like the grille, like the headlights, have some mdx rdx in them, but for the most part, i think it looks better than any other acura in the lineup. Take a look at what are the cool things they did on the grill, so we've got these little diamond shapes that's, right dog and you can see they carried him over here into the center panel. Hang on the puppy's eating my mic, cable! No! No! No! No! You can't do that the people will never hear me, which is probably a good thing for the people, but you can see they carried over these little diamond designs here into the actual acura plates.
I, like the full led headlights, they're, pretty squinty, and the overall design is just really wide. You know it's got that classic low long wide. Look about it. Interestingly enough, the tlx is targeted price wise with like audi a4 lexus is bmw, 3 series but size wise it's more in line with, like the 3 series 5 series, i do like this dark gray color. They call it a silver it's, more of a gray aspect. Badging here along the side, we'll talk about what that gets you when we head inside, but take a look at these wheels. These are 255 40r19s also finished in this gray, uh gray design there. I think that looks pretty good. I could use a little bit of pop of color like in the brake caliper, just because it's a little bit too monochromatic on the side. If you ask me, but black mirrors there low roof line, this adds to that kind of sporting look. It is, of course, a sedan like a traditional sedan with the trunk, but the roof line's got this great great slope to it, which makes it look more like a coupe in the back here, really prominent deck spoiler, and i think the back end is the best Part of the overall design – i really like these new tail lights. I think they're just super sleek. Looking i like how they kind of mold themselves into the trunk here and then out into the fender, really a just a cohesive design here, backup camera in the acura logo, and this one is the sh all wheel, driver super handling, all wheel, drive spec, which means It'S just like little blaze here, it's got all wheel, drive that's right! So not only is it good in the corners but it'll be able to tackle the snow, probably not as good in the snow as he is, but it should be.
Okay, big chrome exhausts here um. This is not the type s, so there is a faster version coming with 355 horsepower, but speaking of power let's head under the hood, this tlx is equipped with a two liter four cylinder turbocharged engine, and this is a huge upgrade over the previous generations base engine. Now the old tlx had like a 2.4 liter na engine. I think it made 206 horsepower this one in turbocharged form 272 horsepower around 280 pound feet of torque, so huge power upgrades over the previous generation of tlx. You can see it is transversely mounted here, but yeah it's cool. I mean i appreciate you, can get this engine in all wheel, drive um just because up here in colorado, that's a huge deal when it comes to tackling the winter weather 10 speed automatic transmission as well. So you can row through those gears with the paddle shifters. Now let's head on inside and see uh what the new interior is like. This is my lion. King moments, there you go buddy, you're, a good boy. All right, let's see what you think of the back seat. Dog, hang on you're gon na you're gon na snag the mic all right. What do you think of it back there? These seem to fit pretty well i'll, be back there in a sec buddy. You got to take a look at the front seat, first that's. What the viewers care about? No! No, no, no stay back there good boy! Now, the interior of this new tlx is a huge upgrade over the old one.
I'Ll tell you what it's uh it's very sporty looking i mean a lot of organic shapes here. Not a lot of 90 degree angles, not a lot of flat surfaces, either it's pretty much all rounded and curvaceous and a bunch of different materials throughout. Here i like the red stitching that contrasts the black dashboard, but we've got to talk about these seats kind of the wildest part of the interior. On this, this is a a suede and a leather seat. You can see red against the black it's, either going to be something you really love or really hate here in the type s we have the sport seats, they seem to do a pretty good job of holding you in place. Uh. Oh, what are you doing? Dog we're going to talk about infotainment that's, not really your area of expertise, you're more into sticks and lakes, but anyways the infotainment screen in the tlx is 10.2 inches. It'S a big old screen. Take a look at that. Let me boot it up here kind of a cool animation as you go and start it up, but unfortunately it's not a touch screen display it's, actually all driven down here through this little touch pad and – and they kind of took this from like lexus – and i Kind of wish they didn't because i'm, not a huge fan, but you can see here this little touch pad it's just hard to use, not all that intuitive.
I am glad that they gave you a proper volume knob. This is a really big deal uh. You know some honda products of the past have gone with touch sensitive volume controls, but not this one, good old volume, knob great thing. They do, however, have touch controls here for the transmission. So if i go ahead and start it up using the start button, you can hear that 2 liter coming to life and now to select reverse. For example, i pull back on the switch drive, is a push in on the button and then same with park. There is there's, another button, do have a couple different drive modes ranging from sport to normal and then even a comfort, setting and let's see. If you can hear this, let me move the mic. It'S got this kind of cool, little kind of like game boy. Sound effect. Listen, i don't know if you can hear that, but when you change the drive mode, that gives you just a little visual noise that you're doing something cool. I do like that and the best part of the interior are the gauges which are white and red and the steering wheel, perforated leather steering wheel it's, just it feels right. It feels perfect feels very accurate, very japanese, but a little bit flat here in the bottom. A little bit flat here on the sides, but it just it's, nice and thick. I love the bolstering one of the best steering wheels.
I felt in a long time and the paddle shifters are good as well, so they are steering wheel mounted but they're, not some chintzy plasticky thing. They actually got a nice metallic feeling to them kind of a busy steering wheel, though we've got controls for volume and for infotainment here on the left, cruise control on the right, but between the steering wheel and the white gauges. It'S, pretty cool in here let's check out the back seat. So this is my driving position at six foot, one inch tall, yeah, it's, pretty small, i have to say it's, not a very uh roomy back seat for taller adults. Here you can see, my headroom is pretty compromised and if i had three of breasts back here, even width would be a little compromised. The one good thing is uh. These seats do hold you in place, even in the rear. So if you're uh, perhaps a passenger to a rather sporty driver, you're not going to be thrown about, i do have a cup holder here in the center, all wrapped in red of course – and i do have two air vents as well. So if you're a kid, if you're uh, if you're a slightly bigger kid, you're gon na be pretty comfortable back here, but if you're a really big kid, like me, you're gon na be stuck all right. Let'S check out the trunk, so i'm gon na pop the trunk here with the key push and hold the trunk button, and it pops open like that and take a look at this kind of little he's, hidden easter egg.
Here, there's even a button on this tail light, i can pop it open like that as well. It is a traditional trunk which feels kind of unusual in modern day life, because so many cars are crossovers or some kind of you know weird hatchback thing. This is a proper old school sedan with a fairly large trunk back here you have a little bit of underfloor storage as well, but uh. The seats are one area i'm, not a big fan of so to fold the seats. You have to pull these releases in the trunk and then you have to go around the side to actually lower the seat. So if i come around here to the side that's how i lower them – and then they can get stuck of course in these seat backs so that's a little bit of a pain i'd rather just have like a lever. I can pull back here and put him down, but blaze would be very grumpy about that if he wasn't so busy munching on a stick doing your job for you, blaze, you're supposed to be in charge of storage and backseat comfort. Blaze is more interested in the tiny piece of wood than the brand new acura. This is a hot car. People are stoked about it. All right, well, let's, load up, we'll, go for a ride and um we'll see what it's like on the road. Now your first impressions when you get the acura on the road is it's a pretty big car and it definitely feels large compared to like a 3 series or an a4, and it also feels pretty heavy.
But the advantage of that is the ride is just beautiful. It'S really well sorted, probably the best in class acura has done a great job of balancing uh. You know a sporty ride that that feels like it could take a canyon road with confidence, but also a ride that you'd be perfectly comfortable driving a thousand miles across country in one day. So the ride is great. The seats are exceptional as well. Steering is a little bit artificial. You know it. Doesn'T quite have the response of like a genesis, g70 or a 3 series. Let me change the drive mode here. Let me stick it into sport. Yeah now it's artificial, but heavy so that hasn't improved it all that much but cabin noise, very insulated from the outside world and i'm pulling out onto this bigger road here, let's see what it's like when you give it some beans, all right, not bad at all. Blaze certainly enjoyed that didn't you little dude, oh yeah, that was fun, so power is good and torque is even better, not much turbo lag and it does have a cool growl in sport mode as you hit 65 7000 rpm and brakes feel good too. You know really linear response, so i think on the road this car is a winner, like i said, it's, not quite as dynamic as the 330i uh it. It feels a little bit more murican. If you know what i mean ready for your road trip, but yeah it's, pretty fun, come on buddy, so what'd you think of the new tlx blaze, it's, pretty fun huh.
I think they did a great job sorting out the driving experience uh. Our video for alex did point out it's a large car on the outside, but not that big on the inside. So on the puppy scale. I think it's going to get two out of four paws it's, just not that usable when it comes to carrying dogs and luggage. However, on the human scale on the tfl rating of buy at least it rented or forget it i'm, going to put it in between a lease it and a buy it because it's really well made. I think it looks great. It performs well even in its base trim, which you couldn't say about the old tlx and price wise it's, pretty good value. This one in a spec configuration with all the sporty goodies, 47 275 dollars, so not bad value either and when, when equipped with the acura safety systems like this car has it's uh yeah it's got all the features you want like adaptive. Cruise control for collision mitigation. It'S, a good value really is a good value. Well guys, thank you so much for watching check out tflcar.com for the latest and greatest and new and used car and apparently now car and puppy reviews.
