2021 Nissan GT-R Premium: Start Up, Test Drive & In Depth Tour
Look at the 2021 nissan gt r. In this video i'm going to cover all of the ins and outs we'll talk about how it drives, how it sounds, how all of the features work and, of course, how much all of this costs plus a whole bunch of other stuff. So without further ado, let's go ahead and start her up and let her run at this point, the r35 generation gtr is best compared to a fine wine it's, only gotten better with age. Since it was introduced for the 2009 model year. It has seen countless updates and revisions to bolster performance and refinement. Of course, some aspects of the car have started to date themselves, but that's to be expected with a car entering its 12th year of production. Despite this, the r35 gtr remains an iconic grand tour that's. Incredibly, quick and handles like it's on rails it's, also pretty practical when looking at other competitors in this segment over the past few years, we've seen the best versions of these cars come to light aside from the typical year to year updates, we typically see from manufacturers There haven't been any significant changes to the gtr since the 2017 model year when it had the opportunity to check out the then newly refreshed lineup. A lot of the changes and updates applied then still apply today. The two most recent updates appeared last year with the gtr's 50th anniversary, including revised turbochargers and the reintroduction of an iconic nissan color bayside blue this year.
There are only two gtr models offered the standard premium model not to be confused with the optional premium interior package and the track ready, gtr nismo, they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder and to me, the styling changes introduced back in 2017 were just What the car needed to take it over the top it's aggressive, functional and still looks great. After all these years, those changes included new front and rear bumpers, new side skirts and a reinforced hood. The exterior focuses on three key areas: downforce generation drag reduction and the cooling of vinyl vehicle systems. Everything has a purpose it's all complemented by a nearly flat underbody that finishes off with a carbon fiber rear diffuser base pricing for the 2021 gtr premium, including destination, and the standard titanium exhaust is hundred 115 five dollars. These cars are pretty much loaded up from the get go, but there are a handful of additional options. This example is equipped with the optional four thousand two hundred eighty dollar premium interior package, a 1 000 premium paint collar known as pearl white tri coat, and the optional 425 dollar carpeted gtr logo floor mats. The latter also includes a first aid kit in the trunk total msrp, for everything that you see here is one hundred twenty one thousand forty dollars. The gtr rides on lightweight forged aluminum wheels by raise engineering. These 15 spoke wheels are probably my favorite fitted to any r35 gtr they're painted glossy dark, grey and feature diamond turned accents.
The staggered setup consists of 20 by nine and a half inch wheels in front and 20 by 10 and a half inch wheels in the rear. They'Re wrapped in dunlop high performance run flat tires 255 40s in front and two 85 35s in the rear. They yield. Excellent road handling, with lateral acceleration forces upwards of 1g. If i were to be picky and complain about something that'd be that dependent on the road surface, the tires can be quite noisy. Stopping from 60 miles. An hour can be done in just under 100 feet. Thanks to a set of huge cross, drilled and internally, ventilated, two piece disc brakes from brembo, they respond with near perfect linearity, both in day to day driving and spirited driving. In other words, they bite hard underpinning. The gtr is an aluminum intensive, fully independent suspension that includes double wishbones and front. A multi link, design in the rear, progressive rate springs and large diameter hollow stabilizer bars over the years. Nissan has tweaked things here and there to improve handling, control and torsional rigidity of the structure. There'S, no hiding the fact that the gtr is a large car. Curb weight is just under '00 pounds with a 54 front weight bias, it's a grand tour with the soul of a race car standard, three way adjustable.
Bilstein damptronic monotube shock absorbers enable adaptability of ride quality between comfort and performance between the drive modes. You can really feel the differences in suspension feel while the gt r has seen notable improvements in ride quality over the years, it's still a very stiff car, which made it more unforgiving on some of the rougher country back roads that i normally test on the gtr. Steering consists of a speed, sensitive rack and pinion design with an aluminum steering rack four point mounting and stiff insulators. It offers sharp response during spirited driving with reduced effort for around the town, commutes and great feedback on the open highway. The overall ratio is 15 1, and it takes about 2.4 turns between lock to lock. The turning circle is measured at 37.4 feet. The steering wheel itself is wrapped in soft leather and is manually adjustable for both tilt and reach. The driving position is spot on with excellent ergonomics. All of the essentials are well within reach on the upper spokes, you have an assortment of buttons that operate the radio hands, free telephone cruise control and more a comprehensive driver information system can be found via the digital display within the instrument cluster, the buttons on either Side of the cluster housing correspond to the various functions of the driver's information system, as well as interior lighting brightness and the trip computer. The gtr continues to be powered by assembled twin turbocharged 3.8 liter v6. It doesn't offer any more power, but it does have new turbochargers that provide tighter clearances and a five percent increase in efficiency over their predecessors.

Nissan has been including a once optional titanium exhaust system as standard equipment since the 2017 model year. The design of this exhaust also helps get rid of heat more effectively. These r35s aren't necessarily loud cars to begin with, but the titanium exhaust does offer a more emotional soundtrack. The closest thing that i can compare it to is an airplane, and the different sounds that you would hear between taxi and takeoff it's, unique for sure to further manage exhaust temperatures.
The gtr has an under tray just forward of the muffler, which guides air into the rear diffuser to help cool the muffler and evacuate hot air. The gt r's premium midship platform layout places the transmission transfer case and final drive at the rear of the vehicle without using traditional torque tubes. This allows the suspension to operate independently while optimizing weight, distribution and maximizing tire grip at each corner. A six speed: dual clutch transmission continues to be the only transmission offered with automatic and manual modes and a one and a half way mechanical limited slip differential. If you wanted to change gears yourself, there's a large set of magnesium paddle shifters mounted to the back of the steering wheel when left in automatic mode adaptive shift control is programmed to change shift schedules to fit your driving style, making it possible to drive normally or Aggressively without needing to manually change shift modes along with lightning quick upshifts, the transmission offers aggressive breath matching downshifts that can even occur during abs engagement when tackling a tight corner at higher speeds. This leads to a more intuitive feeling, as well as reduced understeer. When exiting said corner to extend transmission reliability during high speed cornering a dry sump lubrication system is included during normal driving. The all wheel drive system is shuffling all torque to the rear, so that the gtr behaves like a rear wheel, drive vehicle. However, up to 50 percent of the torque can be sent to the front, depending on speed, lateral acceleration steering angle, tire slip, road surface and yaw of rate in the lower portion of the dash there's.
Three switches that control the gtr's various drive modes. They allow for. Other enhancements included, bose, active noise cancellation technology and a greater use of sound absorption materials throughout the cabin. These cars are absolutely awesome on the track, but at the end of the day, the gtr is a grand tour. The interior is a welcoming environment, that's, comfortable and perfectly suited for long trips. Black leather and synthetic suede upholstery is standard, but when opting for the premium interior package, like this example, hand, stitched, semi, aniline leather is added throughout, along with unique stitch detailing on the door panels and center console, depending on your exterior color choice. There'S four leather colors to choose from rakuta tan, high gray, red, amber and curo knight, both front seats, feature full power adjustments. A way for the driver and four way for the passenger. Heated seats are standard. The seats were updated in 2017 to shed a bit of weight thanks to revised side supports that actually offered greater comfort over long drives. Perhaps the most important change to the gt r's interior was the center stack it's, far simpler in design compared to earlier cars. As a number of controls were significantly reduced as far as the audio system, an 11 speaker, bose system is standard. It includes two rear mounted subwoofers, positioned vertically, in between the rear seats perched on top of the center stack is an 8 inch capacitive touchscreen infotainment system with a traditional anti glare display. The rotary dial in the center console enables you to control various infotainment features remotely.
If you didn't want to reach for the screen, the system includes most everything you'd expect, including navigation, satellite, radio, mobile apps, bluetooth, connectivity, hands, free telephone apple, carplay, sirius, xm data and more one of the coolest features is a suite of interactive vehicle information displays you can Totally customize the layout of important vehicle, specific performance information such as coolant temperature engine oil temperature engine oil pressure, transmission, oil temperature, transmission, oil pressure and turbocharger boost pressure, all sorts of stuff. Each display can be set to show different things based on your personal preference standard safety equipment include dual front airbags, front seat, mounted, side, impact, airbags and roof matted side curtain air bags for the front seat occupants. You also have an sos emergency assistance system via the sos button on the overhead console, while the gtr is technically a four seater. The back seat is very limiting with a comfortable seating position for myself. I'D, be very surprised if anyone would be able to sit behind me, it's, probably best left for smaller children. That being said, there are top tether anchors, so you can affix car seats. In a nutshell, a proper grand tour is a sports car that's designed to go long distances, blending performance, comfort and, of course, style. You can't go long distances without some decent cargo space, though out back the gtr offers 8.8 cubic feet of trunk space. While it may not sound like a lot it's more than enough room to pack comfortably for two people with some extra room to spare, the trunk is illuminated and comes with a handful of cargo hooks if needed.
One neat detail is that, instead of having a traditional pull down, handle to close the trunk lid there's, a small leather strap as far as the rest of the interior storage. You don't have a ton, but the essentials are there, including a locking glove box door, pockets cup holders for the front and rear and center console space that contains two usb ports, an aux port and a 12 volt power outlet. Great review, as always! I remember the R-35 had a huge task when it was launched, to be a high performance and somewhat affordable sports car, and it did a great job! I’m not sure, but I think it doesn’t have any direct Japanese competitor to this day, maybe de Honda/Acura NSX, but I don’t think both cars are really on the same category. Looking forward to see what Nissan will do to the next generation GT-R!
