Family Vacation: I Test If The 2021 GMC Sierra Diesel REALLY Gets 24 MPG On A 400-Mile Road Trip!

I am actually on a quick family vacation here in the rocky mountains and the truck i brought with me today or this weekend is a brand new, gmc sierra at4 and, as you can see it's early morning here and we're, just about ready to get going for Another day on the slopes, which is a lot of fun but uh it's, also gon na be a little bit of a cold start test about three degrees. Right now, the truck's been sitting all night, of course, by itself and i'm gon na try to fire it up. It should start pretty normally, but it's really cold. It is a diesel. It has a three liter diesel engine under the hood and i'm. Also gon na show you kind of an mpg loop uh, because i'll be driving around 400 miles, maybe 450 miles from denver here to maysfield colorado uh to the mountain a couple of times and then back, which is could be closer to about 400 miles and i'll. Show you kind of the fuel economy in the real world in the very cold temperature of what this diesel is capable of, and also how useful it is for a family trip. So let's do a startup first there. It goes actually that took about two to three seconds. That was not very bad for being three degrees: oh that's, a little preview of what's happening as far as the trip meter, but i am going to show you the real world fuel efficiency at uh at the pump.

But look the range is listed at 379 and the fuel tank is still about three quarters full, so yeah i mean this truck in general. Is pretty efficient? I'Ve been running the engine a little bit yesterday, while we're standing still to warm up so it's, not just driving but it's, also kind of warming up because it's a quiet cold. So this, of course, has the probe tailgate multi pro, which means you could fold it in several different ways: Applause, we actually went skiing yesterday and we found this very useful. Um i'll show you why, in a second, the skis uh all fit just very nicely, as you can see right here on the side, i also have a few kind of sleds for going downhill. This is a carbon pro bed um, and i wish it did have a ton of cover, because it's been snowing and um. I wish i could protect everything that we had not just from freezing temperatures, but also from snow coming in Applause. This is really great for changing into ski boots or snowboard boots just sitting down in the back of the truck. The skis are right here, it's very easy. I can just boom uh, the kids found it pretty easy, also and, of course, getting into the bed for extra stuff. It'S. Also quite easy, so the tailgate is actually coming in very handy and everybody is really commenting about it and saying how useful it is and traction is not really an issue.

As you can see, these are dirt roads, but the duratrax goodyear, wrangler duratrax are performing quite well they're, pretty frozen right now, Applause, but you can see no slippage here in the driveway and i've, been pretty happy actually driving to the mountain and back with this truck. Well, there you go i'm gon na show you a little bit more about how the truck uh kind of supports us during this trip and then go to the fuel station and actually fill up once we get closer to denver and actually fill up the truck and Give you fuel efficiency numbers i'm, expecting it to be pretty good, and one thing i noticed see right here behind the grill. The shutters are closed. So while this truck will be warming up, it's gon na close the shutters in order to kind of get the best possible warm up. So so there you have it guys stay tuned. All good things must come to an end and i'm done with a trip. The truck performed great, i have no complaints. The whole family really enjoyed this trip. It was a long one 421 miles and, according to the trip meter, 24.4 mpg, but let's uh. Let me check it at the pump actually and see exactly what it is um and then, of course, i'll tell you how much this truck costs uh.

After all, the options are taken into account. Music final damage is 16.626 gallons. Okay, let's get to the bottom of this 421 miles divided by 16.626, equals 25.3, so it's a little bit better than the computer said, that's a pleasant surprise and i think a good result. Well, what can i say this truck made, this family trip, enjoyable, comfortable, quiet and also efficient?
