Can Deep Snow STOP a Tesla? We Find Out!
The model y is in the snow, actually model y performance, but there wasn't a lot of snow. But, oh my gosh. Do we get a lot of snow last night? So in this video we're gon na do a video. How good is a tesla in the deep snow show them what we got. Yeah we've probably got seven to eight inches of snow, big, deep ruts there it's a winter wonderland yeah. Now we do have one advantage. We are riding on all weather tires, so let's see what kind of a snow plow and how good this tesla does. But why don't you show the tires first, because it's really about tires all right. So, first of all look how deep that is there. This tesla has a set of the aftermarket michelin cross, climate 2 tires and, most importantly, they are snow rated, which means that they are good below temperatures of 44 degrees. They also aren't going to turn into hockey pucks like a traditional all season. All right are we ready yep we're ready? Let me get into position here so immediately. You can see that we've got a little bit of plowing action there, all right all right, so dual motor all wheel drive what dual motor all wheel drive means. Is that there's a motor in the front and there's a motor in the back? Look at that, unlike a traditional car that has drive shafts? Of course the tesla does not have drive shafts.
You can see, though, it's leaving signs of his under tray here in the snow. Let'S get another shot perspective of how much snow we got. Of course the canadians are like that's, not a snow. Alright let's see him come back through the deep deep snow here. Oh yeah, the downside of having a low front end, but then, of course it is whisper, quiet, it's, pretty cool. It looks kind of funny driving through the snow, though it must be said just because it's so sleek and aerodynamic. This is kind of weather. You'D expect to see bigger suvs plowing through whoa over the hood. Look at that that's pretty cool all right. Let me uh change rows here now the model y comes in both dual motor and dual motor performance. This one is the performance, which means you have more power. That is so much fun time. You know what it's like what it's like skiing when you get that uh face dunk of fresh powder that's, what it's like it's just flying over the car uh but yeah? The the going is good, the braking not so good. Should i do one more run. Yeah let's go to a different place, i'm gon na hop on in see what the inside experience is like. Now this is the radiator and, of course, it's all jammed up with snow. Your windshield wipers are freaking out dead. You got to go into the setting yeah, you got to go in the settings here there we go, let's, see what it's like inside.
When i do that yeah let's uh put on our uh yeah put on your seatbelt, let me close that window yeah i'll close the window. I do hate the windshield wiper controls here, because look they're right there and there's no way to turn them off there. You go there, you go all right here. We go yep all right here we go here, we go full throttle, drive come on here, you go there. We go now we're in drive. I think i get some deep stuff. Look at that. Oh my god! Oh, i can't see dude turn on the wiper yeah see. This is the issue you got to go here. Yeah. I know what a horrible system finally come on. Maybe it'll go there. We go. I don't want to hit a car just goes into full speed. There. Yeah, pretty cool, sometimes reinventing the controls is not a great idea. You know what i mean for sure yeah, but these ties are doing so much better than an all season. Yeah these tires are just stuff and the advantages that you could incredible keep them on all year round too, so you don't have to change them out um in the summer time, like a traditional winter tire i would say going is good. Braking let's get let's get a little bit of speed. Uh, oh yeah, the sensors are all getting old. All mushed up there back up the road. A little bit do not enter so we'll go back up.
The road we'll try a little bit of breaking. Here. We go here. We go it's like a face full of powder, that's, so great yeah. I see the car don't worry. I'M good. All right here we go come on tesla. You know. People are afraid that electric cars are no good in the snow. I think this is you know the reason that uh, you know we bought an electric car here in colorado in the winter because they are good in this, though i mean look at this, look at look how deep that is: it's going to be 12 inches of Snow that's flying over the hood right now. Well, the cool thing is: is that with an electric car, you can modulate how much power goes to the different motors? And if you had four motors one on each wheel, you could easily uh distribute power where it needed to go i'm, not i'm, not sensing. A lot of uh wheel slip, i mean it's, you know it's it's, obviously winter conditions, and so there is a lot of snow here but it's not like. I feel like i'm, not in control. I think if i were going even slower, i'd have my mom drive this your grandma she'd be perfectly fine with this. You know we're having a little bit of fun right now, but this car is uh very sound, very capable and just you know, killing it in the snow, although if it was much deeper, you'd start running into ground clearance issues, especially if it was more wet, yeah.
It'S flaky and very powdery yeah it's very powdery snow. Here you want to pull over here. I want to see how deep the snow is in the wheel. Yeah whoa let's see how deep we got onto the wheel, so you can see it's so deep, you're actually plowing here with the door and that's the snow we've been driving in about halfway up the wheel, let's see if he can get out of this. This situation. Oh there's, just too much snow built up underneath the front end there, but he's able to back on up a little bit of speed there. He goes so pretty easy to modulate the power in the snow, that's for sure there's also something called slip start mode and in slip start mode. You can get a little bit more wheel. Spin it's, like track control off kind of. I had to use a little menu there, but it worked on me yeah you're, able to get out yeah i'm really impressed. I mean even for a sports suv right with not a lot of ground clearance. Now, keep in mind guys. This vehicle can do zero to 60 in under four seconds right, so you're talking about a car with just huge amounts of torque and huge amounts of power, and yet here it is, you know basically just ready for a snow plow to go. Do some driveway snow, plowing it's that uh capable and these aren't, like i say, all weather these aren't, even full on snow tires, so i got ta tell you tommy.
That was a lot of fun uh and i am sincerely impressed. We do one more last dunk for just for fun, sure let's go in the deep stuff again, one more deep stuff run here we go we've kind of driven this down pretty much. Oh man, i'll go for the stuff. Oh, you can see where i yeah, where you driving it down, yeah you can see where i've driven it down already. Oh, this is incredible. It'S like skiing, except in a car. Oh there you have it there. We have it there. You go guys a little bit of colorado winter tire testing, uh the real, honest and independent way here at tfl. Thanks for joining us, remember, check out tflcar.com for more news views and, of course, winter wonderland, snow.
This may be a good time to talk about how hybrid trucks and cars can help when the grid goes down. Some folks in Texas are powering their homes with their hybrid vehicles
Hi Tom hi Rom
🤝
Scrunchy sounding snow is the best snow.
Would be possible
So weird seeing the wheels move with no engine sound
Poor texas . It’s not political lol
