Mazda CX-9 2021 review: GT SP
It traditionally combines style with size and comfort, and the new version of the cx 9 is no different. I test drove the cx 9 gtsp, which is actually a new model in the range of six. It sits at number four out of six and it costs around sixty eight thousand dollars competing with cars like the toyota kluger and the kia sorento here's, how it did with my family of four over seven days of driving Music for a more detailed review head to The car's guide website and, if you're watching this on youtube, hit subscribe for more videos. The exterior of the cx 9 hasn't had a major overhaul it's still that reliably stylish car you're used to seeing on the streets with an air sophistication that is well beyond its price category. This model does have a black side, mirror unique wheels and a black front. Grille that are special to this model Music inside this gtsp model, and the first thing you notice are the burgundy leather seats which are super eye catching and they look great. The only thing i would say is to choose an exterior color that actually goes with this interior color there's. Also a leather steering wheel. There are high gloss accents around the well designed dash, and it feels quite premium in here, which is pretty good, considering that there are two models to go before you get to the top of the range. The multimedia system has been upgraded to a 10.
25 inch screen and that's more in line with the other top competitors in this field. So that's a great thing: it comes with apple, carplay and android auto, so you get instant access to your phone's main apps. But don't forget this one isn't a touch screen so it's actually controlled by this knob down here, which works quite well. It used to be a very clunky design system of mazda's, but they've improved it and it's actually fine, while driving. I particularly like the swish double opening center console it's got a decent size space in there. You'Ll get two cup holders in the front: a spot for keys and a phone there's, a wireless charger here as well. Plus there is storage and a bottle holder in each door. Space up the front is great it's. Definitely one of those cars you'd be happy to take away on a long road trip, because it is so comfortable in the front seats there's enough legroom and headroom for taller passengers even with the sunroof second row. Passengers also get a lot of room. My two children aged seven and nine were so happy in the back here and i can fit really easily at 161 centimeters or five foot three. This is a taller person's, driving position and there's loads of space between my knees and the seat in front so taller adults, teenagers won't have an issue back here, even for long journeys and yes, you can fit three kids car seats across this row.
Second row, passengers get two cupholders in the center armrest and a small storage spot that is perfectly sized for devices. You'Ll also get two usb ports back here, perfect for long road trips. If you've ever been in a car with children on a long road trip. Those usb ports are gold. Second row passengers also get their own climate control, plus two envelopes on the back of the front seats into the back row, which has customizable space thanks to the sliding middle row. So if you're a tall person, you will need to slide this row forward, so you have enough space to sit. Kids will be fine back here and adults. Probably won't want to be here for long journeys anyway, but they'll be fine for shorter rides. You'Ll also get two cup holders – some storage in here plus another set of usb ports – amazing, but you don't get directional air vents in here, which is a bit of a miss. I think you will get flow on from the second row. Air vents, but i love it when there's your own events in the third row boot space in the cx 9 is super large. With the third row folded down. There is a whopping 810 liters of space which will fit pretty much anything. You can get suitcases in here. A double pram it'll fit a long road trip's worth of stuff with the third row in use the boot space shrinks to 230 liters, but that will still let you carry around school bags or grocery bags it's just enough for a weekday and the driving is good.
In the cx 9, this updated version has a 2.5 liter four cylinder turbo petrol engine, which is quite responsive and it doesn't feel heavy for such a large car. There is some expected lag on, take off but drives really well, it handles really nicely, and the steering wheel turns nice and easily. It doesn't feel too much like hard work. It powers up hills well, and you also feel really confident driving on highways, partly because of the size and partly because of the power you feel comfortable. Overtaking fuel consumption is acclaimed at nine liters per 100 ks, and i did an average of 12.2 liters per 100ks. This week, doing mostly city driving, not many highways, there is no hybrid or electric version on the horizon. For the cx 9, however, which is a bit disappointing, considering some of its competitors will have one it's, a very large car and you can feel its size when parking. I had to have a few goes in my local woolies this week, but once you get a handle on the size, it's got a really clear: reverse parking camera to help you out. Music safety is comprehensive across the cx 9 range and you will find front and rear auto emergency braking, request, traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. There are airbags for front passengers of the cx 9 plus side curtain, airbags that extend all the way to the third row and that puts it ahead of cars like the hyundai, santa fe and the kia sorento.
This new cx 9 has four isofix points and four top tether points, so you can fix kids car seats in safely on both back rows. Music. The cx 9 is one of those cars that really has it all for a family space, seven seats, style, practicality and safety it's all here, the new update, plus a brand new spec just makes things a little more special. I gave it a family rating of 8.
A 6am upload? Dracula works CarsGuide?
Not sure about those black wheels, I know the look they’re going for but I’m not sure it works.
I dislike black rims. Vehicles look to bland with them in my opinion. Like a bit of bling.

vom.lol
The car looks huge next to the diminutive reviewer.
The dress is back, yessss 🤗
CX9 is a lovely vehicle, it has all the goods you ever need
3:20 Loads of space between my knees? I think you mean plenty of room from my knees to the front seat. 😁
That’s what she said
It’s a quality Mazda.
Aging exterior. Nice black wheels. Thirsty engine. Boring analog gauge cluster. No ambient lighting in 2021. New model way overdue. Even top grade has a tiny standard sunroof, no Panoramic roof. Headlights are known to be too small and illuminates poorly.
There are a few ambient light points around door pockets and handles. Middle gauge is actually a configurable LCD screen.
the headlights are very good and illuminate very well. the exterior is nice too and doesn’t need an “update”. Agreed about the roof
In my opinion, still a good looking large SUV. Don’t like the black rims or the colour choices on this model, but to each their own. Simply avoid the SP model if you want to avoid the black.
Still beautiful & practical family car
Still no air vents 3rd row, what is Mazda thinking? 40degree summer every row needs air vents
They probably know no one actually uses the third row
Missing our on full digital instrument cluster panel on start up mode, etc.. !
Great review… 🙂
wow nice cars 👍👍
its really bothered me when people shoes on the back seats.
Mazda’s make such sleek looking cars and SUVs. Thanks for another great review Nedahl.
That’s sunroof is the same size as the one in my 96 civic. For a car this bug that sunroof is pointless.
Nice 👍 suv 🇳🇬
