The car is imposing, opulent, and comfortable, and it just glides along the road like a ship on a calm season. There’s a real sense of occasion when piloting this vehicle. The E46 3 Series will forever be my favorite BMW, that’s not going to change, but I’ll tell you the 2023 i7 xDrive 60 Flagship four-door hits all the right notes for me, and that’s saying something because when I first saw this car and the new 7 Series, I thought they both looked well awful.
First Impressions
BMW first showed these huge sedans off in New York City about a year or so ago, and seeing them in a cramped meeting space under harsh, unnatural lighting was far from ideal. I always say you should never ever judge a vehicle until you can see it in person out under natural light, on auto show turntables, or in a design dome. Previews just do not cut it. And when I first saw these cars, I really didn’t like them. But they are far, far more attractive in the flesh when you see them in person now.
A Notable Front End
That being said, I still don’t love the front end of the i7. Here, the grill, of course, has the twin kidney design that is impossible to miss. It is also flanked by sort of tiered headlamps on either side, somewhat similar to what Genesis is doing these days. However, BMW includes some crystalline elements in the upper lamp housing, which are included in the 6550 executive package.

Now, as I mentioned a moment ago, this is a very large car. As you can see, it basically has a hood that comes right up to my waist. The hood is popped, and that’s because there’s no front trunk.
