The Styling of the MG Comet EV
The styling of the MG Comet EV is divisive, to say the least. Some find it quirky, some find it ungainly, and some truly like it. But one thing you can’t say about the looks of the Comet is that it lacks character, and that is a very good thing, especially in a world where car design is becoming more and more generic, particularly in the mass market segment.
Personally, I wasn’t sold on the styling of the Comet when it was officially launched and the initial press images came out. However, seeing it in person, there’s a certain charm to the Comet’s design. Its compact dimensions and two-door form factor make it look smart. LED headlights and tail lights are accompanied by a light bar both at the front and rear, giving it a modern look. And of course, the vibrant apple green paint job adds to its overall appeal.
The Affordable Four-Wheel Electric Rifle
The MG Comet is currently the most affordable four-wheel electric vehicle in India. It offers EV credentials, a decent electric motor, range, and a relatively well-equipped cabin. But how does it perform on Indian roads? Let’s take it out for a drive and find out.
Behind the wheel of the MG Comet, you immediately notice its compact and lightweight nature. It feels agile and nimble, making it easy to maneuver through traffic and tight city streets. The power is delivered to the rear wheels, which adds to the sporty feel of the vehicle. Acceleration is smooth, and the electric motor provides enough power for everyday driving.
Range and Battery Performance
One of the key factors to consider when buying an electric vehicle is its range. The MG Comet offers a decent range, allowing for long drives without the need to constantly worry about finding a charging station. The battery performance is also commendable, providing a reliable and consistent power supply throughout the drive.
Inside the MG Comet, you will find a relatively well-equipped cabin. The seats are comfortable and supportive, making long journeys enjoyable. The dashboard layout is clean and user-friendly, with an infotainment system that provides all the necessary features and connectivity options. Overall, the cabin offers a pleasant and comfortable driving experience.
Seen on this particular model. All of these things make the comet Stand Out compared to most of the other cars playing on our Indian roads. Proving this point is the fact that the day I filmed this car, no matter where I parked up or which car I parked up next to including some expensive ones like the BMW IX, I always got a crowd forming around the comet Keen to ask questions now. I do understand the fact that this is somewhat attainable to a larger section of our population does add to the Curiosity factor of this little Eevee. Thank you. The illuminated mg logo on the front charging cover and the porthole rear window as MJ calls. It are also very neat design touches on the camera Music always said. I still have a few nitpicks about the styling of the little Eevee, as I am still not a fan of the awkward tall boy proportions of the Comet, no matter how efficiently it is packaged and the wheels which arent even Alloys. At this price point, look quite a few sizes too small for a car of this proportional everything considered the mg Comet still has a very memorable design, not only for an electric vehicle, but for a hatchback in general. The crazy proportions and eye catching colors make it very hard to miss the comrade out on our roads.
The Interior Experience
Music inside the comet definitely benefits from being designed as an Eevee from the grounds Arc.

Interior Design and Space
The 2023 MG Comet EV boasts an electric powertrain layout that has enabled the designers to maximize the interior space in this small car. As a result, there is no central tunnel between the front seats, creating a spacious and open cabin. The high set minimalist dashboard and large glass house further enhance the airy and open feel of the interior. Adding to this is the light gray and white color scheme, which contributes to an overall sense of airiness. However, it is worth mentioning that the fabric upholstery and dashboard inserts are prone to getting dirty easily, requiring diligent cleaning to keep a fresh look.
Quality and Finish
Despite being an affordable hatchback, the MG Comet surprises with its fitting finish, surpassing expectations. The cabin feels well put together and of a higher quality than one would anticipate. The front seats of the Comet are reasonably comfortable, considering the limitations imposed by the EV’s overall width. They are relatively well-cushioned, although it would have been better if the seat base was slightly larger and if the driver’s seat offered height adjustment. As a six-feet-tall individual, I found the seat to be a bit too high. Additionally, it is unfortunate that MG did not equip the Comet with a dead pedal for the driver, as there is no place to rest your left foot while driving.
Rear Seat Accommodation
The rear seats of the MG Comet, designed to accommodate only two occupants according to MG, surprised me. At first glance, they may not appear any better than the cramped third row of an SUV. However, in reality, getting into the rear seats is not as cumbersome as it initially seems, thanks to the wide doors. The space on offer in the rear is quite good, with ample legroom and generous headroom. This makes the Comet EV a viable option for small families or those in need of occasional rear seat access.
Overall, the 2023 MG Comet EV impresses with its interior design and utilization of space. The lack of a central tunnel allows for a roomy feel, while the light color scheme adds to the overall airy ambiance. The fitting finish and quality of the cabin exceed expectations for a mass-market hatchback. However, improvements could be made in terms of seat comfort and adjustability, as well as the addition of a dead pedal for the driver. Nonetheless, the ample space and accessibility of the rear seats make the Comet EV an attractive choice for those needing occasional rear seat accommodations.
Boot Space and Storage
Despite its compact size, the 2023 MG Comet EV suffers from a lack of boot space when the rear seats are up. In fact, there is barely enough room for the EV charging cables and maybe a laptop bag. However, the rear seats can be folded down in a 50:50 configuration, resulting in a significant increase in cargo space. Unfortunately, the Comet EV disappoints when it comes to storage options inside the cabin. While there are storage spaces in the large doors and bins on both sides, the absence of a glove box and storage space in the center console leaves users without any secure places to keep their important documents.
The Dashboard and Infotainment
Stepping inside the Comet EV, you’ll find a modern and sleek dashboard design. There are two 10.25-inch screens, with one serving as the digital instrument cluster in front of the driver. The resolution of the instrument cluster is fairly high, although it lacks the customization options found in some competitors. The second screen is dedicated to the touchscreen infotainment system, which supports Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The interface of the infotainment system is user-friendly, featuring a customizable home screen with various widgets, similar to a smartphone. While the touchscreen is generally responsive, I did experience a few stutters during my time with the car.
Connected Car Features and Other Amenities
The Comet EV comes equipped with a host of connected car features, thanks to its eSIM or embedded SIM technology. With over 100 different voice commands, users can easily control various functions of the car. Additionally, the Comet EV offers a four-speaker sound system, Bluetooth connectivity, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power windows, and electrically adjustable ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors). It’s worth noting that the Comet is currently the only MG model on sale in India that does not come with an electric sunroof.
While the article lacks details about safety features, it’s important to mention that the Comet EV prioritizes driver and passenger safety. MG has equipped the car with a range of advanced safety technologies, including but not limited to, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), ESC (Electronic Stability Control), multiple airbags, and a rigid body structure. These features work together to ensure a safe and secure driving experience for the occupants of the Comet EV.
As a mass-market electric vehicle, the 2023 MG Comet EV aims to offer a balance between affordability, practicality, and advanced features. While it may have certain limitations in terms of storage and boot space, the Comet EV compensates with its technological prowess, user-friendly infotainment system, and connected car capabilities. With its focus on safety and the promise of emission-free driving, the Comet EV is set to make a mark in the electric vehicle segment in India.
Features of the MG Comet EV
The 2023 MG Comet EV comes with an array of impressive features. It is equipped with dual airbags, ABS, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. These safety features ensure a secure and comfortable driving experience. Additionally, the Comet boasts an IP67 water and dust proofing certification, making it suitable for various terrains.
Battery and Range
The Comet EV is powered by a 17.3 kilowatt hour Prismatic Cell lithium ion battery pack. This battery pack provides the vehicle with a range of 230 kilometers per charge, according to official claims. However, during my time with the Comet, I found that the real-world range was closer to 170-180 kilometers in mixed driving conditions. While this range is still respectable, it falls slightly short of the official claims.
Charging the Comet EV can be done using the included 16 amp wall charger or the 3.3 kilowatt AC charger. Both options take approximately 7 hours to charge the battery to 100 percent. However, the lack of a 7.2 kilowatt AC fast charger or any form of DC fast charging is a major drawback. It hampers the Comet’s appeal, especially for urban buyers who lead fast-paced lifestyles and require quicker charging options.
Performance and Drive Modes
Under the hood, the Comet EV houses a rear-mounted electric motor that develops 42 horsepower and 110 newton meters of torque. These figures may not be impressive on paper, and the performance on the road reflects this. Regardless of the drive mode chosen – Eco, Normal, or Sport – the Comet lacks the rapid acceleration typically associated with EVs. The drive modes do little to differentiate the driving experience, except for Eco mode, which significantly dulls the throttle response and limits the top speed to around 85 kph at 30 speeds.

The Performance and Handling
The 2023 MG Comet EV in India offers a satisfactory amount of performance, allowing it to keep up with traffic and execute overtaking maneuvers with ease. Its compact size is a major advantage when maneuvering through congested urban roads. The turning radius of 4.2 meters enhances its agility and makes it a breeze to navigate narrow streets. Additionally, its small dimensions make finding parking spots in crowded metros a hassle-free experience.
However, the shortcomings of the MG Comet become apparent when it comes to highway speeds. At higher speeds, the vehicle feels out of its depth. While it can reach triple-digit speeds in normal and sports mode, overtaking fast-moving traffic becomes a challenge. The taller and narrower form factor of the Comet makes it feel unstable during high-speed maneuvers. The suspension setup lacks firmness, leading to excessive body roll in corners and inadequate cushioning from road imperfections and speed breakers at lower speeds. It’s worth noting that these issues may be partly attributed to the smaller tires fitted on the Comet.
On the flip side, the MG Comet EV excels in agility on twisty roads. The electric powertrain provides a smooth and refined driving experience, with minimal noise, vibration, and harshness levels. Its superior refinement sets it apart from its similarly priced internal combustion engine counterparts. However, the ride quality does suffer, which slightly detracts from the overall solid urban commuting package that the Comet offers.
Unique Approach and Target Audience
In terms of pricing, the MG Comet EV faces competition from the Tata Tiago EV and, to a lesser extent, the Citron EC3. However, MG has chosen a different approach with its EV hatch, targeting a distinct buyer segment. By focusing on the urban commuter market, MG aims to provide a practical and efficient electric vehicle that meets the needs of city dwellers.
The MG Comet prioritizes maneuverability, ease of parking, and a refined driving experience. While it may not be suited for high-speed highway driving or aggressive cornering, it excels in navigating busy city streets and provides an agile response on twisty roads. Its low noise levels make it an appealing choice for those seeking a smoother and more comfortable ride.
In , the 2023 MG Comet EV presents a compelling option for urban commuters in India. Its compact size, impressive maneuverability, and refined powertrain make it a practical choice for navigating congested city environments. While it may fall short in terms of high-speed performance and handling, it compensates by offering a comfortable and agile driving experience. MG’s unique approach to targeting a specific buyer segment sets the Comet apart from its rivals and solidifies its position in the mass market electric vehicle category.
The Perfect Choice for Urban Living
The 2023 MG Comet EV is a great option for urban dwellers, particularly those with small families or individuals living alone. This compact car offers low running costs and is perfect for daily commutes. While it may lack certain features such as cargo space, highway performance, and UC taxes, its city-centric packages and EV credentials make up for these shortcomings.
Amping Up the Electric Experience
The MG Comet EV boasts impressive electric credentials that would surely attract buyers in the market for an electric vehicle. The convenience of zero emissions and the reduced carbon footprint are major advantages that make the Comet stand out. With a focus on sustainability and efficiency, this car is a step towards the future of transportation.
Stylish Design and Personalization
