The Refreshing Design of the NIO EC6
In my previous video, I mentioned that the NIO EC6 is probably the best new offering on this platform in China. However, after taking a closer look, I’m not so sure anymore. While there were very few differences between the first generation EC6 and the E6, the second generation EC6 has transformed into an entirely new car.
A Surprising Exterior
If you’ve grown tired of NIO’s iconic headlights, the EC6 will definitely bring you a surprise. The first thing that catches your eye is the new split daytime running lights, which add an unexpected and refreshing touch to the front design. However, this design has stirred some controversy among my colleagues, as around one-third of them believe that it doesn’t look as good as the old one. So, what’s your take on it?
Another design element that is somewhat ancestor-defying is the tail lights. In both the first and second generation EC6 models, the end of the tail lights is slightly raised. However, the second generation EC6 has it lowered, creating excellent harmony with the descending roof line. It may seem like a subtle change, but it enhances the overall aesthetic of the car. It’s worth mentioning that the design of the first EC6 was a bit hasty, as the rear lights were exactly the same as the ES6.
Impressive Interior and Technology
Moving on to the interior, the second generation EC6 brings improvements and innovations. The first thing you’ll notice is the high-quality materials and craftsmanship that NIO is known for. The seats are comfortable, and the overall layout is intuitive and user-friendly. The infotainment system is packed with features and provides a seamless user experience. NIO’s advanced driver-assistance system, called NIO Pilot, is also present in the EC6, ensuring a safe and convenient driving experience.
One feature that stands out is the panoramic sunroof, which allows ample natural light to flood the cabin and gives a sense of openness. Additionally, the EC6 offers ample storage space, making it suitable for both daily commutes and longer journeys.
Powerful Performance
The NIO EC6 is an electric vehicle, and it doesn’t disappoint in terms of performance. It is equipped with dual motors, providing excellent acceleration and power. The EC6 can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just a few seconds, giving you a thrilling driving experience. The range is also impressive, allowing you to travel long distances without worrying about running out of charge. With NIO’s fast charging network, you can recharge the battery quickly and get back on the road.
The Stylish Design of the NIO EC6
Talking about a CP SUV, the classic roof line is something we can’t miss compared to its Big Brother ec7. The ec6 side profile is actually more to my liking, because a shorter body and a shorter front overhang sort of visually shifts the center of gravity slightly towards the rear, and this makes the ec6 more like a proper Coupe rather than a race Loom like the E7.
Affordable Luxury
And that is the very reason why I appreciate the Porche K coup or Infiniti QX70 more than a BMW X6 or Mercedes GQ. It’s universally acknowledged that an SUV costs more than its rational sibling, and this ec6 is no exception. It costs $2700 more than the es6, but if we take a closer look at the specs and features, they actually cost pretty much the same and the ec6 is even cheaper.
If you take a different view, comparing it to the basic es6, the ec6 comes standard with exceptional zero gravity seats and a quality of light bundle that includes heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, heated steering wheel, fragrances, and so on. The es6, on the other hand, does provide these two options, but they cost $1100 and $1300 respectively. So, just with a little bit of calculation, the price gap is only $400 and, if you have to say au pay style, doesn’t really worth $400.
The Active Spoiler
Also, let’s not forget it also has an active spoiler with two-stage adjustments. Bear in mind that only painting the wing for a Porsche already costs $700 in China. So, why has NIO given us such a price difference?
This decision could be attributed to NIO’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle design and functionality. By incorporating a Cayenne spoiler into the ec6, NIO is not only enhancing the aerodynamics of the vehicle, but also adding a touch of sportiness and luxury.
The dynamic design of the active spoiler allows for adjustments in real-time, improving stability and handling at high speeds. It’s a feature that you would typically find in high-performance sports cars, but here it is, seamlessly integrated into the overall design of the ec6.
Exterior Design
The NIO EC6, with its electric powertrain, is already a head-turner on the road. However, it seems that NIO decided to take it a step further by giving it a touch of BMW X4 with a Cayenne spoiler. This combination creates a truly unique and eye-catching design that sets it apart from other electric SUVs in the market.
Interior Changes
While the exterior changes of the NIO EC6 are drastic and attention-grabbing, the interior changes are more on the moderate side. One noticeable difference is the exclusive purple upholstery on the sporty-looking seats. The panoramic glass roof, although lacking a sun shade, gives the interior a spacious and airy feel. However, if you’re concerned about getting too much sunlight, you can opt for the electric window tint, which comes at an additional cost of $1300.
Performance and Handling
When it comes to performance, the NIO EC6 doesn’t disappoint. However, the slow shifting speed may leave some enthusiasts wanting more. Despite this, the design similarity with the BMW X4 does add a certain level of novelty to the driving experience. The spaciousness and storage options in the EC6 are truly surprising, especially in the rear seats. Even a person as tall as 6’3″ can enjoy plenty of headroom and a comfortable seating position, similar to the NIO ES6.
The Niche Distinction
The NIO EC6 carries on the tradition of the “QP SUV” name, which was popularized by the BMW X6. This name has become synonymous with niche distinction and premium quality. However, with the introduction of the Tesla Model Y, the relevance of this vehicle type has become less significant in the electric vehicle market.
It is only natural to assume that these two cars are aimed at different customers. The NIO EC6 caters to passionate and conventional buyers who prioritize features over affordability. The daring exterior design changes are a testament to this unique appeal.
In , the NIO EC6 with its electric powertrain and bold design stands out on the road. The interior changes, although more subtle, add a touch of luxury and comfort to the overall experience. While the shifting speed may not be as fast as some would prefer, the design similarity to the BMW X4 brings a new level of excitement. Despite the Tesla Model Y’s impact on the SUV market, the NIO EC6 continues to offer niche distinction and a premium driving experience.
Unconventional Design
The automotive world has evolved significantly, and what was once considered outlandish is now commonplace. SUVs, in particular, have become a popular choice for many consumers. However, the introduction of a coupe-like shape in an electric SUV should not come with a hefty price tag. This is where the NIO EC6 comes into play, offering a stunning design reminiscent of a BMW X4 with a dash of a Cayenne Spoiler.
BMW Influence
When the NIO E6 first made its debut, it was difficult to ignore the resemblance it bore to the BMW X3. However, the Chinese market took a different turn, just as BMW did with the X4. This shift in the market led to the creation of the NIO ES6 and EC6, which now exude a sense of luxury and sportiness akin to BMW’s expansive lineup.
Luxury Redefined
With the NIO ES6 and EC6, the Chinese automaker has truly redefined what it means to experience luxury in an electric SUV. The EC6, in particular, captures attention with its sleek design and elegant features. It seamlessly merges the practicality of an SUV with the sophistication of a coupe, providing drivers with a unique and exhilarating experience.
Sport Line Performance
NIO has taken inspiration from BMW’s sport line, infusing the EC6 with power and agility. This electric SUV delivers impressive performance that rivals its gasoline-powered counterparts. The EC6 effortlessly accelerates, making every drive a thrilling adventure. It combines the best of both worlds, offering the efficiency of an electric car with the dynamic capabilities of a sporty vehicle.
Uncompromising Technologies
In true BMW fashion, NIO has equipped the EC6 with cutting-edge technologies that enhance the overall driving experience. From advanced driver-assistance systems to state-of-the-art infotainment features, the EC6 ensures unparalleled comfort and convenience for both the driver and passengers. NIO has truly pushed the boundaries of innovation, providing an electric SUV that is not only visually appealing but technologically advanced as well.
A Bright Future
As the world shifts towards sustainable mobility, electric cars have gained immense popularity. The NIO EC6 is a testament to this trend, offering an eco-friendly alternative without compromising on style or performance. With its BMW-inspired design and luxurious features, the EC6 is set to carve its own path in the EV market, captivating the hearts of those who seek a blend of both power and elegance.
The second generation NIO EC6 is a significant improvement over its predecessor. With its refreshing design, impressive interior, advanced technology, and powerful performance, it is a worthy contender in the electric vehicle market. Whether you’re a fan of the new design or prefer the old one, there’s no denying that the EC6 brings a sense of excitement and innovation to the table.
