Exterior Design

The 2023 GWM ORA GT certainly makes a statement with its good looks. As the smallest electric vehicle on the South African market, it manages to captivate attention with its attractive design. Comparing it to the Mini SE, which is a two-seater, the ORA GT stands out as a car that can accommodate five people comfortably. During my test drive, I had the pleasure of having five passengers in the car, and it proved to be spacious enough for all. The GTline trim particularly enhances the aesthetic appeal of this electric car. The front of the ORA GT has these sleek and posh Porsche-like headlights that are sure to catch anyone’s eye. Even the indicators have been thoughtfully designed, adding to the overall beauty of the car. Passersby can’t help but admire the ORA GT as we drive by.

Unique Features

One interesting feature of the ORA GT is the absence of a front trunk, or “frunk”, as it is commonly known. This is because most of the car’s components, including the batteries, are located at the front. Instead, the ORA GT boasts a carbon fiber panel that gives it a distinct look. Personally, I find the carbon fiber panel to be a bit too much, but it does work well with the contrasting red accents found on the front bumper.

Interior and Comfort

Moving inside the ORA GT, I was pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness it offered. Despite being the smallest electric car in the South African market, it provides enough legroom and headroom for all passengers. The seats are comfortable, ensuring a pleasant and enjoyable ride for everyone. The GTline trim adds a touch of elegance to the interior, making it feel even more luxurious. The materials used are of high quality, further enhancing the overall ambience of the car. The ORA GT truly offers a comfortable and enjoyable driving experience.

Performance and Efficiency

When it comes to performance, the ORA GT does not disappoint. Its electric motor provides impressive acceleration, allowing for a smooth and enjoyable ride. The car handles well on various terrains and offers a quiet driving experience. Additionally, the ORA GT is highly efficient, making it an ideal choice for those looking to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising on performance.

Technology and Safety

The ORA GT comes equipped with a range of advanced technologies and safety features. The infotainment system offers seamless connectivity, allowing drivers to easily access their favorite apps and music. The car also features a comprehensive suite of safety features, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking. These features enhance the overall safety and convenience of driving the ORA GT.

In conclusion, the 2023 GWM ORA GT is an impressive electric car that not only offers affordability but also spaciousness. Its attractive design, comfortable interior, and advanced features make it a compelling option for South African drivers. Whether you’re looking for a practical and efficient everyday car or a stylish and eco-friendly vehicle, the ORA GT is certainly worth considering.

Exterior Design

You’ve got your adaptive cruise control on here, and this is the badge an exclamation mark, which looks quite cool, but I think the front is very imposing you come around the side. You’ve got these really nice 18in alloys with red detailing in it, because this is the GT and yeah I like it. You’ve got a wing mirror on here with indicator in it come across the door. You’ve got handsfree, you know: wireless wireless entry, keyless entry, keyless entry and keyless go you’ve, got a really nice sunroof on there as well, and essentially a wing as you come across here with GT embroidery or gt lettering in there. I really like it. I think it looks cool. My biggest problem, though, is: I think this four carbon fiber is a bit match. I think I’m trying to picture it if its just black cading, I think it would have worked, but this full C fiber is a bit much. I think they could have used it on specific parts, but on here I just find it a bit much overall, though its a really good looking car, let me take around the back and then the interior, but I think they’ve gotten it just right.

Rear Design

At the rear, you’ve got a really nice rear and I think the biggest thing that stands out here is this diffuser, with the brake lights incorporated into the F1 style brake light, which is quite cool, but I just think this diffuser is a bit much like its…

Interior

Now let’s take a look at the interior of the 2023 GWM ORA GT. As I step inside, I am immediately impressed by the spaciousness of the cabin. The seats are comfortable, and there is ample legroom and headroom for both the driver and passengers. The GT embroidery on the seats adds a touch of sophistication to the overall design.

The dashboard is well-designed, with a modern aesthetic and intuitive layout. The touchscreen infotainment system is easy to navigate, and it offers a wide range of features and connectivity options. I particularly appreciate the inclusion of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as it provides a seamless integration with my smartphone.

Another notable feature is the panoramic sunroof, which floods the interior with natural light and gives the cabin an open and airy feel. It is a great addition for those who enjoy the feeling of space and the ability to enjoy the views while on the road.

Driving Experience

Now, let’s talk about the driving experience of the 2023 GWM ORA GT. The electric motor delivers instant torque, providing smooth and responsive acceleration. The car feels nimble and quick, making it suitable for both city driving and highway cruising.

The suspension is well-tuned, striking a balance between comfort and sportiness. It soaks up bumps and uneven surfaces with ease, while still offering a connected and engaging driving experience. Exterior Design

The 2023 GWM ORA GT boasts a sleek and stylish exterior design that catches the eye. One unique feature is the absence of traditional brake lights on the rear end. Instead, the brake light is ingeniously incorporated into the glass, creating a seamless and modern look. The cost of such a design choice is something to ponder, as one can only imagine the intricacies and expense involved. Additionally, the car sports a cool spoiler that not only adds to its aesthetic appeal but may also serve a functional purpose, although the extent of its functionality is unclear. Nevertheless, there is no denying that the rear of the car is faultless in terms of looks. Another interesting feature is the electric tailgate, which adds convenience and ease of access.

Interior Styling

Stepping into the GWM ORA GT, one immediately notices the dual-tone color scheme exclusive to the GT variant. The combination of red and black gives the interior a bold and sporty feel. This choice of color certainly adds character to the car and prevents the interior from being dull and monotonous. The GT emblem on the headrest further emphasizes the car’s sporty identity. The steering wheel is a standout feature, featuring capacitive buttons that are both visually appealing and sensitive to touch. The digital driver display and infotainment system, complete with Appo C and wireless connectivity, add to the overall technological sophistication of the car. However, one cannot help but feel a sense of frustration when navigating through the infotainment system, as various functions require deep exploration and menu diving.

Performance and Functionality

While the article does not provide detailed information about the GWM ORA GT’s performance specifications, it does mention that the car currently produces 128 kW of power and 250 newton meters of torque. These figures indicate that the car possesses ample power and acceleration, contributing to an enjoyable driving experience. As for functionality, the review focuses on the importance of being able to easily deactivate certain functions, such as Lane Keeper Assist. This serves as a reminder that, like many Chinese cars, the GWM ORA GT may require users to navigate through the infotainment system to access certain features and options.

The 2023 GWM ORA GT presents itself as an affordable electric car option in South Africa. Its eye-catching design, both inside and out, makes it stand out among its competitors. The sleek and modern exterior, with innovative brake light placement and an electric tailgate, enhances the visual appeal of the car. The interior’s dual-tone color scheme, sporty elements, and advanced technology contribute to an overall satisfying driving experience. While the car’s performance specifications are briefly mentioned, the review primarily highlights the need to navigate the infotainment system for certain functions. Ultimately, the GWM ORA GT proves to be a spacious and affordable electric vehicle choice for South African consumers.

The Infotainment System

The one thing that I really like about the 2023 GWM ORA GT is its advanced infotainment system. Everything is conveniently housed in the system, allowing easy navigation between various functions. Tabs are available to open all the tabs you have previously accessed, making it effortless to switch between different functions. Whether you want to deactivate the Lane Keep Assist or any other feature, you can simply click on the screen and go directly to the desired function.

User-Friendly Controls

The GWM ORA GT’s controls are reminiscent of mini-cooper or Ford Mustang buttons. They are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional. You can easily switch your AC on or off, as well as control your hazards with these well-designed buttons. Moreover, there is ample room inside the car, including two wireless fast chargers and a practical armrest with decent storage space.

Pleasant Sound and Insulation

Even though this electric car lacks the noise of a traditional ICE engine, the GWM ORA GT impresses with its well-insulated interior. The sound quality inside the car is excellent, providing an enjoyable driving experience. However, at high speeds above 120 km/h, some wind noise can be heard. This is understandable since there is no engine noise to mask it. Nonetheless, the overall sound insulation has been well-taken care of by the manufacturers.

An Easy Start

Although I was initially perplexed about how to start the 2023 GWM ORA GT, I quickly adapted to its unique starting process. Once you get the hang of it, starting the car becomes a breeze. The 2023 GWM ORA GT is a game-changer in the electric car market in South Africa. With its affordable price tag, this car offers a spacious interior and a range of impressive features.

One of the standout design elements of the GT is the addition of four doors, making it a practical option for families or those who need extra space. The inclusion of a panoramic sunroof adds a touch of luxury to the vehicle, allowing ample natural light into the cabin.

Power and Performance

Although the GT may not boast the highest power figures among electric cars, it still delivers a satisfying driving experience. With 138 KW and 250 NM of torque, the GT has enough power to handle daily commutes and more. While it may not match the torque output of some other electric vehicles, the instant power delivery of the GT guarantees an exciting and responsive ride.

2023 GWM ORA GT Review: South Africa’s Most Affordable Electric Car!

No Gearbox, No Problem!

One of the greatest advantages of electric cars is their seamless driving experience. Unlike traditional cars, there’s no need to worry about shifting gears or complex gearboxes. You simply press the pedal and go! It’s a refreshing change from the traditional way of driving, and it adds to the overall convenience and simplicity of electric vehicles.

Impressive Battery Performance

The 2023 GWM ORA GT comes equipped with a 63 KWh battery, which offers a range of approximately 400 kilometers. However, in real-world conditions, I found that it comfortably covered around 320 kilometers. This range is more than sufficient for daily commuting, making it an ideal choice for those looking for a cost-effective and eco-friendly vehicle.

Perfect for Daily Commuting

For the daily commuter, the 2023 GWM ORA GT ticks all the boxes. Its range, combined with the ease of charging, makes it a practical and reliable option. With a simple plug-in charging system, it’s effortless to keep your car powered up and ready to go. This is especially convenient for those who can charge their cars at home or at their workplace, as the car comes with a 7 KW-hour wall box.

Avoiding Charging Challenges

During my time with the GWM ORA GT, I encountered a few challenges when it came to finding charging stations. However, this is not something the average owner needs to worry about. With the purchase of the car, GWM provides a wall box that enables you to charge the vehicle at home or at the office. This eliminates the need to rely heavily on public charging infrastructure, ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience.

Charging Experience

When it comes to charging the 2023 GWM ORA GT, I was pleasantly surprised by the convenience it offers. With its impressive battery life, you will rarely find yourself in need of public charging. But in case you do, the option is readily available.

I had the chance to experience public charging, just for the sake of it. And I must say, it was quite a cool experience. I even tried out the 100 KW hour DC charger at a charging station in M of Africa. To my surprise, the car was fully charged in just 30 minutes. Impressive, isn’t it?

Spacious Interior

Don’t let the size of this car fool you. It may be small, but it offers an abundance of space inside. I was amazed by the amount of room available. There’s ample space to accommodate everything you need to take along with you.

One feature that caught my attention was the two wireless chargers in the car. They are not only wireless but also fast. However, I was a bit annoyed by the absence of a USBC in this car. But the wireless charger was fast enough to compensate for that inconvenience.

My overall impression of the interior is extremely positive. I found myself impressed by the roominess it provides. There’s almost no shortage of space to put your belongings. It truly is a nice little car that offers both comfort and functionality.

Ideal for Everyday Commute

Priced at 320k, the 2023 GWM ORA GT is more than enough for daily commuting. You won’t find yourself frustrated with its range. In fact, for someone like me, staying in Pretoria, the car offers a range that allows me to easily travel to places like Mafikeng, covering a distance of 300K.

Whether you need a reliable vehicle for daily commutes or occasional long drives, this car does not disappoint.

The Interior

One feature of the 2023 GWM ORA GT that didn’t impress me much is the menu system for controlling the drive settings. It requires diving deep into the menu, which can be a bit cumbersome. However, once you get past that, the car performs exceptionally well in the city and on the highway. The acceleration is smooth, and there’s no noticeable lag when overtaking.

One advantage of this electric car is its quietness. Since it doesn’t run on petrol, you can hear every little noise. However, the wind noise becomes quite pronounced when driving at speeds over 100 km/h. This might be a drawback for some, but personally, I didn’t find it too bothersome. I always had the radio on, so it drowned out most of the external sounds.

The Design

One of the standout features of the GWM ORA GT is its impressive 360 camera. This feature is not only beautiful but also incredibly useful. This is just one of those nifty features that make this car truly remarkable.

Park with Ease
