The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024: A Closer Look
When it comes to finding the best family EV, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV is a strong contender. With its modern design, impressive features, and competitive pricing, it puts other electric SUVs, like the BMW iX, on notice.
Impressive Variants
The EQE SUV comes in four different variants, and for our test vehicle, we opted for the entry-grade model. Don’t let its starting position fool you, though, as it still carries a robust price tag of $134,900 before on-road costs. While it may not be as affordable as the Beamer, it is much cheaper than its Audi counterpart. However, it’s worth considering the top-spec EV9, which comes in at $121,000 and offers maximum value with its extensive specifications.
Luxurious Creature Comforts
The entry-grade EQE SUV may be cheaper, but it doesn’t skimp on luxury. It comes highly specified, ensuring occupants enjoy all the creature comforts they desire. From a panoramic sunroof, heated and electric front seats, to a premium Burmister sound system, power tailgate, and upmarket tech throughout, this model has it all. A Modern Design
The EQE SUV’s design is decidedly modern and, in my opinion, far more tolerable than its sedan sibling. While it may not be the sexiest SUV on the market, it does have some impressive design elements. The black grille with its repeated star motif and the 3D helix design lights at the rear are eye-catching. Additionally, the digital LED lights at the front put on a mesmerizing dance when you first start the car. The autoflush door handles and illuminated running boards add to the overall appeal, especially at nighttime.
Overkill or Overdesigned?
While the illuminated running boards may be visually striking, in my opinion, they don’t contribute much to the overall design. They seem like overkill and unnecessary. However, if you appreciate the added flair and enjoy the beautiful display they create at nighttime, they may be worth the extra design element.
In conclusion, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 is a strong contender for the best family EV. With its range of variants, luxurious features, and modern design, it puts competing electric SUVs on notice. Whether you choose the entry-grade model or opt for the top-spec EV9, you can rest assured that you’ll be driving a high-quality electric SUV that ticks all the boxes for a family-friendly vehicle.
Interior Design
The interior design of the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 is striking, with the standout feature being the 12.8-inch touchscreen multimedia system that takes center stage. The graphics on both the touchscreen and the 12.3-inch digital instrument panel are sharp and visually appealing. However, the rest of the dashboard lacks refinement, with a plasticky feel that is slightly disappointing considering the price point. On the bright side, the air vents resemble jet turbines, adding a cool factor to the overall design.
Ambient Lighting
One of the highlights of the EQE SUV’s interior is the 64-way color ambient lighting. This feature truly transforms the cabin space, especially at nighttime. Strip lighting in the seats, roof, and doors adds a vibrant and exciting atmosphere to the car. No matter which direction you turn your head, you are greeted with an explosion of color. The ambient lighting adds a touch of pizzazz and enhances the overall aesthetic of the interior.
Practicality
The EQE SUV impresses with its practicality, offering ample room in both rows. Unlike some other large SUVs, the EQE SUV can confidently claim that it provides sufficient space for all passengers. The car also excels in individual storage options, with various compartments and cubbies throughout the cabin. The deep middle console and center console, along with a well-designed cubby with an elastic strap for a large handbag, further enhance the car’s practicality.
Comfort
The electric front seats in the EQE SUV offer unbeatable comfort. They are exceptionally comfortable, providing a luxurious seating experience. The extendable under-thigh support and four-way adjustable lumbar support further contribute to the overall comfort of the seats. Whether embarking on a short jaunt or a long road trip, occupants of the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV can expect a pleasurable and comfortable ride.
The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024: A True Family EV Experience
When it comes to finding the best family electric vehicle (EV), the new Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 is certainly putting its competitors, like the BMW iX, on notice. This impressive electric SUV offers a range of features and functionalities that make it a top contender in the market.
Luxury and Comfort
One standout feature of the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 is its luxurious and comfortable interior. The model offers a kinetic massage function, which, while not as noticeable as in other Mercedes models, still enhances the overall driving experience. Additionally, the EQE SUV boasts an array of charging options throughout the car, making it easy for the entire family to stay connected on the go.
Charging Convenience
In terms of charging options, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 leaves no stone unturned. The vehicle features six USB-C ports and a wireless charging pad, ensuring that everyone’s devices can stay powered up during long rides. However, it is worth mentioning that using the charging pad while also utilizing the cup holders can be a bit finicky. Nonetheless, the convenience of numerous charging options cannot be ignored.
Advanced Tech
The technology in the EQE SUV is both sophisticated and user-friendly. The responsive touchscreen offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, allowing for seamless integration with smartphones. Additionally, the augmented reality feature in the satellite navigation system provides dynamic instructions overlaid on a video feed. This feature proves to be especially useful when navigating busy city centers.
Unique Soundscapes
One intriguing aspect of the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 is the ability to choose from three different soundscapes for the car. This feature adds an extra level of dynamics to the driving experience, with the soundscapes changing when starting or turning off the vehicle, as well as during acceleration. While initially enjoyable, some may find this feature to be gimmicky over time.
Climate Control Convenience
A particularly practical feature of the EQE SUV is the ability to pre-set the climate control system. This means that you can set your desired temperature, and upon unlocking the car, the system will automatically start pumping air to cool down or heat the interior. This is a small yet highly convenient feature that ensures your car is always comfortable, regardless of the outside weather conditions.
Interior Comfort and Amenities
The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 offers exceptional interior comfort for the whole family. Even during hot weather, the car can be cooled down quickly, providing a pleasant environment for everyone. The backseat offers ample headroom and legroom, resembling the spaciousness of a limousine. The panoramic sunroof adds to the appeal, allowing taller passengers to have a comfortable experience. The seats are well-cushioned, although they lack sufficient under-thigh support. However, the flat floor makes it convenient for middle seat passengers. The amenities include practical features such as mat pockets, directional air vents, two USB-C ports, and reading lights. The fold-down armrest is positioned at a suitable height, ensuring that it doesn’t hinder the passengers’ comfort. Interestingly, the side steps proved to be popular among children, providing them with a great view through the wide windows. The durable kick plates on the back of the seats are easy to clean, a handy feature for families with children who tend to put their feet on everything.
Safety and Child-Friendly Features
The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV prioritizes safety and offers various features to cater to families with young children. The car includes ISOFIX child seat mounts and three top tethers in the back row, providing secure options for child seat installation. While two seats fit best in this row, there is still ample space for front passengers even when a rearward-facing child seat is installed for children aged zero to four. This allows families to prioritize the safety and comfort of their youngest passengers without compromising the comfort of the adults.
Comparison to BMW iX
The arrival of the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 puts the BMW iX on notice in the competitive family EV market. While the BMW iX offers its own set of advantages, such as advanced technology and luxurious features, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV stands out with its spacious and comfortable interior. The EQE SUV’s generous headroom and legroom, along with the practical amenities, make it an ideal choice for families who prioritize comfort during their journeys. The child-friendly features, including the easy-to-clean kick plates and secure child seat mounts, further enhance the appeal of the EQE SUV for family use.
A Spacious and Practical Family EV
The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 is a fantastic option for families in need of an electric vehicle that offers comfort, space, and practicality. With its wide door apertures, sliding in a child’s seat becomes effortless, making it a hassle-free experience for parents. The 520 L boot size provides ample room for luggage and groceries. Additionally, there is a convenient storage compartment underneath the floor for cables and other bulky items. What sets this SUV apart is its level load space, making it easy to optimize storage options. The 40:20:40 split of the back row adds further versatility.
Convenience Features
While the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 300 does not come with a tire or puncture repair kit due to its run-flat tires, it compensates with a hands-free power tailgate. This feature proves to be super handy when you have your hands full with groceries or other items. Gone are the days of struggling to open the tailgate while carrying a heavy load. With the hands-free option, all you have to do is wave your foot under the rear bumper, and the tailgate will open effortlessly.
Performance and Charging Capability
The EQE SUV 300 is a rear-wheel-drive vehicle equipped with a single electric motor located at the back. It boasts a maximum power output of 180 kW and an impressive 550 Nm of torque. While it may not be the quickest off the line, with an official 0 to 100 km sprint time of 7.6 seconds, it still offers plenty of power for everyday driving.
In terms of charging, the EQE SUV 300 features a Type 2 CCS charging port. It can accept speeds of up to 11 kW on AC charging and an impressive 170 kW on DC charging. Reaching a full charge from 0 to 100 will take approximately 14 and a half hours using AC charging, while DC charging can accomplish the same in just 32 minutes for a 10% to 80% charge. These charging capabilities are quite impressive and ensure that you can get back on the road quickly.
Efficient Energy Consumption
Equipped with a large 89 kWh lithium-ion battery, the EQE SUV 300 offers an official energy consumption of 18.9 kWh. However, many owners report achieving slightly lower consumption in real-world usage. This level of efficiency is commendable for a vehicle of its size and power. The lower energy consumption translates to cost savings and longer driving distances, making it an environmentally friendly choice.
Overall, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 is a top contender for the title of the best family EV. Its spacious interior, practical features, solid performance, and efficient energy consumption make it an excellent choice for families looking to make the switch to electric vehicles. With its sleek design and impressive technological advancements, it poses a serious challenge to competitors such as the BMW iX. The EQE SUV 300 is a true masterpiece that ticks all the boxes for the modern family.
The Driving Experience
Considering how much open road driving I did this week, I also didn’t have any range anxiety because of the healthy 539 km driving range. The 300 SUV is well balanced and sure of itself, and it handled itself like a pro with both open road driving and city slicking. This week, I think it’s got a lot of grace and the power is pretty responsive, it’s just not as fun as other EVs.
The Winning Feature: Ride Comfort
On the market at the moment, the ride comfort is absolutely the winning feature. For me, the suspension is well cushioned. You can handle most roads without any wincing, which is great, and the cabin pretty much gets zero noise from the outside, which just makes for a very refined cabin space and driving experience. Despite the wider A and B pillars, you still get really great visibility in this because of the wide windows and the lower window sills.
Customizable Regenerative Braking
There are three levels of regenerative braking with this car that you can customize: none, normal, and strong. I’ve had it in normal for my week with this because I just find that to be the nicest setting for me personally with driving. It’s responsive and gives enough power regen for me. But I really don’t like the strong setting when you’re in stop-start traffic in the city; it just gives a very jerky experience for me, and I actually really don’t like it. How the brake pedal moves when it’s activated just totally wigs me out.
A Pleasant Parking Experience
I’ve really enjoyed parking this car. Its maneuverability is impressive, and it feels quite agile in tight spaces. The parking sensors and rearview camera make the job even easier, ensuring that you have a clear view of your surroundings.
In conclusion, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 offers a comfortable and refined driving experience with impressive ride comfort, great visibility, and customizable regenerative braking. While it may not be the most exciting EV on the market, it provides a smooth and effortless driving experience for families looking for a reliable and practical electric SUV. With its range and handling capabilities, it puts the BMW iX on notice as a strong contender in the family EV segment.
Design and Features
The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 is equipped with an impressive array of design features and advanced technology. Its super clear, 360-view camera system allows for easy maneuvering, with the ability to change camera angles according to your preference. The front and rear parking sensors further enhance the parking experience, making it a breeze, especially for those who are not super confident in their parking skills.
Moreover, the EQE SUV boasts a park assist feature, which adds to the convenience and ease of parking. But what truly sets this vehicle apart is the integration of ambient lighting with various safety systems. For instance, if you’re approaching the car in front of you too quickly, the lights across the dash will flash red as a warning. Similarly, if you indicate but there’s something in your blind spot, the lights on the doors will also flash red, alerting you to the potential danger. This practical application of ambient lighting enhances both safety and aesthetics, a combination often overlooked in other vehicles.
Safety Features
When it comes to safety, the EQE SUV leaves no stone unturned. While it hasn’t been officially rated by anap yet, it is equipped with 10 airbags, including a front center airbag and side chest airbags for both rows. This level of protection is usually reserved for the front row only, making the EQE SUV stand out in terms of safety measures. It comes with a 5-year unlimited km warranty, ensuring that any potential issues are taken care of by the manufacturer. Additionally, the battery is covered by a 10-year or up to 250,000 km warranty, surpassing the warranties offered by most other electric vehicles on the market.
In terms of servicing, Mercedes-Benz provides the option to pre-purchase a three, four, or five-year servicing plan. However, it’s worth noting that the five-year plan comes with a steep price tag of $4,085 or an average of $817 per year. While this may seem expensive for an electric vehicle, it should be considered in light of the overall value and quality that the EQE SUV offers.
The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 proves to be a strong contender in the market for the best family electric vehicle. Its impressive design, advanced safety features, and generous warranty coverage make it a top choice for families seeking both comfort and peace of mind. With the EQE SUV, Mercedes-Benz puts the BMW iX on notice, showcasing their commitment to excellence in the realm of electric SUVs.
Servicing Intervals and Complimentary Cables
When it comes to electric vehicles (EVs), one concern that often arises is the servicing interval. Many people worry that it may be more frequent and costly compared to conventional fuel-based cars. However, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 puts those concerns to rest with its servicing interval of every 12 months or 25000 km, whichever occurs first. This is in line with what you would expect from a traditional car, providing peace of mind to potential buyers.
Moreover, the Mercedes-Benz EQE 300 goes a step further by offering two complimentary cables with the vehicle. This means you get an at-home AC charger, as well as a public charging cable. With these cables, you can easily charge your EV wherever you are, whether at home or on the go. This convenience adds to the appeal of the EQE SUV and sets it apart from its competitors.

Impressive Driving Range and Power
Range anxiety is a common concern among potential EV owners, but the Mercedes-Benz EQE 300 puts those worries to rest. With a commendable driving range, you can confidently embark on long journeys without the fear of running out of power. Additionally, the EQE SUV offers impressive power, ensuring that you have ample acceleration and performance whenever you need it.
Ongoing Costs and Styling Considerations
While the Mercedes-Benz EQE 300 excels in many areas, it’s important to note the ongoing costs associated with this electric SUV. Unfortunately, the EQE 300 has higher ongoing costs compared to some of its competitors. While the initial purchase price may be reasonable, it’s essential to factor in maintenance, repairs, and insurance costs over time.
Furthermore, when it comes to styling, the EQE 300 may not be as eye-catching as some of its rivals. While beauty is subjective, it’s worth considering if you prioritize a sleek and stylish appearance in your choice of an electric SUV.
In conclusion, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 is undeniably a strong contender for the title of the best family EV. With its convenient servicing intervals, complimentary cables, spacious cabin, and impressive features, it offers an unrivaled package for family-oriented buyers. Its exceptional on
