The Design
This upgraded version of the MG Electric Vehicle (EV) truly caught my attention. Having owned and loved the older model for a couple of years, I was excited to experience the improvements firsthand. Thanks to the generosity of Hendy, we were given the opportunity to test drive the trophy model in a striking volcano orange color. If you want more information about this car, you can follow the link provided. Now, let’s explore its impressive features.
A Spacious Family Car
The MG4 Electric Car is undoubtedly a fantastic choice for families. It boasts a spacious hatchback design that offers ample room for everyone. Even if you’re on the taller side, you’ll still find comfort in the back seat. One noteworthy change they made is to the wing mirrors, enhancing visibility while on the road. Standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels and a stylish trim. But the real highlight of this car is its affordability. For just under 27 grand, you’re getting a remarkable family car that is incredibly popular.
Funky Upgrades
Let’s take a quick look at the spoilers on this MG4 Electric Car. While some people might not love them, they are undeniably an upgrade that adds a touch of uniqueness to the vehicle. But what truly impresses me is the enormous amount of boot space. The car offers a staggering 363 liters worth of storage. That’s more than enough to accommodate all your family’s belongings during trips or outings.
An Unusual Start
Now here’s something that caught me off guard and left me a little perplexed. As I got into the car for the first time, I couldn’t find the on/off button. It was confusing until I realized something interesting. As soon as you sit down, the monitors come alive. Then, when you put your foot on the brake, the car enters ready mode. From there, it’s as simple as putting the car in drive and setting off on your journey.
Unconventional Start Button
The first thing that struck me about the MG4 Electric Car was its unconventional start button. It wasn’t where I expected it to be, but surprisingly, it didn’t take long to get used to.
A Ground-Up Design
What sets this MG apart from its predecessors is that it’s the first one in their EV lineup to be built from the ground up. Previous models were mere adaptations of ICE cars, while this one was specifically designed and built as an electric vehicle.
Range is Key
One of the reasons why the MG4 is gaining popularity in the tight family car segment is not just its spaciousness or design, but its range. The standard model boasts a range of 218 miles, but if you opt for the extended range model, you could enjoy an impressive 323-mile range. This is a significant leap from the previous MG I had driven. It’s fascinating how things are constantly evolving in the world of electric cars.
Interior Changes
The interior of the MG4 Electric Car has undergone several changes compared to the old Zs. The most noticeable change is the positioning of the dials that take you from Park to neutral to drive. They have been brought up higher, while the central console has been significantly reduced. The screens have also seen a change in size, resulting in a dramatic transformation inside the car.
An Unfortunate Disadvantage
Bringing everything up to the higher position in the interior does have its downsides. Personally, I find that it feels awkward, and there’s a constant fear of accidentally knocking my knee against it. It doesn’t feel quite right or ergonomic.
And there you have it, my thoughts on the MG4 Electric Car. It is certainly a unique entry in the world of electric vehicles, offering a ground-up design, impressive range, and interior changes. However, the higher positioning of certain elements in the interior leaves something to be desired in terms of comfort and usability. Nonetheless, it’s clear that the MG4 is pushing boundaries and influencing the future of electric cars.
Steering Wheel Controls
On the MG4 Electric Car, the traditional steering wheel controls have undergone some changes. The regenerative braking options that used to be located on the steering wheel have now been relocated to a small screen. This move aims to simplify the overall design of the car and make it more user-friendly.
Increased Information and Options
The new screen on the MG4 Electric Car offers more information and options compared to its predecessor. While the previous design was not necessarily problematic, the updated version provides additional details and features. For instance, the screen now displays five different drive modes, including snow, eco, normal, sport, and custom. Previously, these options were only accessible through physical buttons or dials.
Apple Pay and Satnav
One minor drawback of the MG4 Electric Car is the need to plug in your phone to access Apple Pay or Apple Play. This requirement can be seen as a downside for those who prefer wireless connectivity. Additionally, the car does not come with satnav as a standard feature. Customers will need to pay extra to have this functionality included. However, with the ability to connect your phone and utilize mapping applications, the need for built-in satnav may be less crucial.
Screen Navigation
While the transition to a screen-based interface is intended to streamline the car’s controls, some may find it overwhelming. There is a considerable amount of information and options now presented on the screen, which can make it feel cluttered. Although it is likely that users will eventually become accustomed to the system, the constant switching between screens can be a bit confusing and may lead to a sense of information overload.
The Evolution of Controls
The MG4 Electric Car represents a shift towards more screen-based controls and less reliance on physical buttons and dials. While this transformation offers a sleeker overall design, it also introduces new challenges in terms of user experience. The multitude of options and information presented on the screen can initially be perplexing. However, with time and familiarity, users will likely adapt and appreciate the increased functionality and flexibility offered by the new system.
Interior Design
The MG4 Electric Car offers a practical and spacious interior that is perfect for families. The storage space is abundant, making it easy to fit all your belongings. The trim of the car is subtly designed with a touch of blue Stitch, adding a unique and eye-catching element to its appearance.
Storage Features
One of the standout features of this car is the ample storage options it provides. The standard glove compartment offers convenient storage for your personal belongings. Additionally, you can keep your phone within reach by placing it in the designated storage area. The car also offers storage options in the middle and on the sides, ensuring that you have plenty of space to keep your essentials organized.
Driving Experience
Contrary to what some reviewers may claim, the MG4 Electric Car is not just a city car. Its versatility shines when driving through country lanes, making it an ideal choice for both urban and rural environments. Whether you’re zipping through tight city streets or cruising along open country roads, this car handles exceptionally well.
Safety Features
With a five-star endcap rating, the MG4 Electric Car prioritizes safety. This rating provides peace of mind to drivers and passengers, knowing that they are protected in case of any unfortunate incidents. Additionally, the car comes with an impressive 7-year warranty, guaranteeing its reliability and durability for years to come.
In conclusion, the MG4 Electric Car is a practical and reliable choice for families. Its spacious interior, versatile driving capabilities, and emphasis on safety make it an appealing option in the electric car market. With its impressive features and long warranty, it is definitely worth considering for those in search of a high-quality electric car.
