This battery pack, combined with two motors on board, provides the BZ4X with a driving range of approximately 461 km in the combined WLTP cycle. While this range is about average for medium SUVs, it falls behind competitors such as the Hyundai Ionic 5, Kia EV6, and Tesla Model Y.
The BZ4X’s 400-volt architecture allows it to be charged with DC electricity at a rate of 147 kW, resulting in a rapid charge time of approximately 28 minutes for a range of 108-463 km. When charging at home, the BZ4X can be connected to a Type 2 port located at the front left, accepting AC power at 7 kW for a full recharge in around 11-12 hours.

Unlike a typical RAV before, which would rev and struggle, the BZ4X breezed through inclines effortlessly. Even on tricky sections, this electric SUV showcased easygoing confidence, making clambering up inclines a breeze. However, it is important to note that ground clearance may be an issue for true off-road enthusiasts. With only 205 mm in approach and departure angles of 17.4 and 25.6 degrees respectively, the BZ4X falls slightly short compared to dedicated off-roaders. But let’s not forget that the BZ4X is primarily a road-focused family SUV, and in that context, it performs exceptionally well. For reference, a Subaru Forester manages 230 mm of clearance with approach and departure angles of 20 and 24.6 degrees.
Off-Road Capabilities Hindered
While the BZ4X showcased impressive performance off-road, it was ultimately held back by its road tires. Equipped with 235/50 R20 Dunlop tires, the BZ4X struggled when the suspension bottomed out on bumps. However, at low speeds, the ride quality was promising, thanks to the dampers effectively rounding off sharp edges. These observations bode well for the BZ4X’s overall performance and off-road capabilities.
