The BYD Dolphin Review
Now BYD might not be a brand that you’re overly familiar with, but they are actually one of the largest car manufacturers in the world. You may have already seen the ATO 3 on the roads in the UK, which is a slightly larger crossover kind of vehicle. The Dolphin is their go at the small car market, and this is really quite a compelling package here. We’ve got one with 265 M of range and it’s really really well kitted out. Let’s take a closer look.
Boot space is competitive at 345 L. You do have an adjustable floor height there, but it’s not the most convenient of boot spaces for getting things in and out of. Certainly, a little bit of the rear estate is eating into here and despite the fact that we don’t have quite as much overall capacity as we’d see in a cpra born or a VW ID3, it does fare well against things like the Renault Zoe, the Corsa e and, of course, the aura funky cat.
The Dolphin is certainly no slouch when it comes to overall performance. Get 150 PS of power. We’ve got a 60 KW hour battery, which you can charge from 0 to 80 in just 43 minutes at fast charger, and you’ve also got an N to 60 time of 7 seconds.
The overall design of the Dolphin feels quite safe. It’s certainly not going to be as controversial as something like a funky cat, despite the fact that this one’s in this fairly funky two-tone paint.
The BYD Dolphin’s Interior Design
One of the first things that catches your eye when stepping into the BYD Dolphin is its stunning interior design. The designers have truly hit the mark with their bold and avant-garde approach to the cabin. The overall layout is clean and modern, exuding a sense of sophistication.
Upon closer inspection, you’ll notice that the Dolphin utilizes a combination of high-quality materials throughout its interior. While there are some hard materials present, they don’t feel cheap or flimsy. It’s a breath of fresh air, as many vehicles in this price range tend to skimp on quality.
The durability of the Dolphin’s interior is immediately evident. The components feel solid and well-built, giving you confidence that they will withstand the test of time. Unlike other vehicles where the hard plastics feel fragile, the Dolphin’s materials feel robust and reliable.
The BYD Dolphin comes packed with numerous convenient features that enhance the overall user experience. The cabin offers ample storage, with a variety of compartments strategically placed to accommodate your belongings. There’s even a nifty little holder for your phone or loose change, ensuring that everything has its place.
In terms of technology, the Dolphin doesn’t disappoint. It boasts three USBC sockets and a 12-volt charging socket, allowing you to easily charge your devices on the go. Additionally, it features a wireless charging pad, adding another level of convenience for tech-savvy users.
Comfort and Ergonomics
Getting behind the wheel of the BYD Dolphin is a delight. The steering wheel is well-designed, offering a comfortable and ergonomic grip. The thumb controls are thoughtfully placed and easy to navigate, allowing for seamless control of various functions while driving. The driver information display is crisp and high-resolution, providing all necessary information at a glance.
The Center Screen
However, the true standout feature of the Dolphin’s interior is its large central screen. This impressive display serves as the command center for the vehicle’s entertainment and connectivity features. Its size and clarity make it easy to read and operate, adding a touch of futuristic sophistication to the cabin.
Overall, the BYD Dolphin’s interior is a testament to the tremendous progress being made in electric vehicle design. With its bold aesthetics, quality materials, thoughtful features, and cutting-edge technology, the Dolphin sets a new benchmark for what can be achieved in the realm of electric vehicles. Whether you’re a tech enthusiast or simply appreciate a well-designed interior, the BYD Dolphin will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression.
The BYD Dolphin Interior
Now there are those that, like the sort of landscape approach to these things, as you would find in something like a Tesla, and I think we can definitely tip a hat to Tesla when we look at this – and there are some that prefer it. The other way around like in a Ford so um theyre, both catered For here folks um.
A Gimmick or a Natural Choice?
You might feel that’s a bit of a gimmick, but there are people that prefer one way or the other and certainly for some applications, it’s just more natural to have it. One way or the other, it also gives you a little bit of theater that you don’t get in many modern cars, so I’m all for that.
Intuitive Infotainment System
I think it’s a great idea, the screens, actually nice and crisp and bright and clear, and despite the fact that things like your aircon controls are built into the screen rather than having separate physical buttons and dials for them and your volume, you know the only place you can adjust that is sort of up here on the steering wheel, despite all that this works very, very well and um. It is certainly one of the more intuitive systems to use on the market.
BYD Sets the Standard
At the moment, I would say BYD has done really, really well with this interior. A number of companies have failed. They’ve either produced interiors that are really dull and bland and boring or functionally they’re a disaster. You know, they’re a nightmare to use. The BYD Dolphin, on the other hand, sets the standard for a user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing interior in electric vehicles.
Byd have done very well with this. Its really well considered its really put together and Im a big fan. As we jump into the back, it’s another good news story in this model. We’ve got this huge panoramic roof which lets in loads of light. Otherwise, it might be a little bit dark in here, but it’s really nice and bright because of that. You’ve got two USB Cs down here. Um, no rear air vents, which is a little bit odd, possibly, but there we go. As you really get to appreciate those nice sort of racing bucket type seats from the back here as well. You’ve got individual pockets there to put mobile devices in plus a larger pocket. Once again quite hard, but interesting materials and textures have been used, and it really just feels a little bit different in here, but not different in a “look how crazy I am” kind of way, different in a good way.
Comfort and Space
We’ve also got a nice big central armrest here with a couple of cup holders built-in. Completely flat floor, which means you could sit three adults in here, although you are going to be fighting for a bit of shoulder room. Byd is currently opening a number of franchise dealerships in the UK just like this one, Byd Southwest in Exitor.
The Driving Experience
Now, once we get the little dolphin out onto the road, you’re immediately impressed by just how effortless this thing is to drive, and it makes town driving an absolute breeze.
The BYD Dolphin offers a driving experience that sets it apart from other modern cars. Unlike some vehicles with fly-by-wire steering, the Dolphin provides a connected and immersive experience for the driver. You can truly feel in control of the car, with every movement and adjustment responding to your commands. The lightness of the front end may require a slight adjustment when first driving the Dolphin, but it adds to the overall maneuverability and control of the vehicle.
Maneuverability and Parking
One of the standout features of the BYD Dolphin is its exceptional maneuverability. You can easily navigate and park in even the tightest of spaces without any hassle. Additionally, the Dolphin boasts a very decent turning circle, which is a rare find in many modern cars. This makes maneuvering through urban streets and crowded parking lots a breeze, ensuring that you have no problems fitting into any spot.
Rear Wiper and Impressive Features
In an era where some modern cars have forgone rear wipers, it is refreshing to see that the BYD Dolphin still retains this essential feature. The presence of a rear wiper ensures clear visibility, especially during inclement weather conditions. It is a small yet appreciated detail that contributes to the overall functionality and practicality of the Dolphin.
Overall, the BYD Dolphin proves to be an impressive little car with its thoughtful design and attention to detail. While it excels in many areas, there is one aspect where it falls short, and that is the amount of cabin noise experienced during the ride. Due to the lack of an engine, the noise from the tires becomes more noticeable, especially at higher speeds. However, it is worth noting that this is a common issue in cars within the same class.
In , the BYD Dolphin presents itself as the next wave in electric vehicles, offering a driving experience that is both connected and maneuverable. Its rear wiper and overall impressive features add to its appeal. Although it may have slight cabin noise, it remains a remarkable option within its class. The BYD Dolphin is surely a vehicle to consider for those embracing the electric revolution.
Accurate Range and Surprising Performance
When I set off this morning in the BYD Dolphin electric vehicle, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the car quoted the stated range figure of 265 miles. It’s rare to find an electric vehicle that actually delivers on its promised range, but this one did. I expected the range to decrease quickly as I started driving, especially since I didn’t have the air conditioning on, but to my amazement, the range only dropped to 253 miles after a 12-mile journey. The accuracy of the range figures was impressive.
Smooth Suspension and Comfortable Ride
The suspension of the BYD Dolphin deserves special mention. As I drove over some rough and bumpy roads, I could hardly feel the smaller imperfections. Only the biggest potholes made themselves known, but even then, the car’s suspension soaked up the impact with ease. It provided a smooth and comfortable ride, without feeling overly soft or floaty in corners. The engineers at BYD have done an excellent job in finding the right balance between comfort and handling.
A Fun and Enjoyable Driving Experience
While the BYD Dolphin may not be considered a true driver’s car, it still manages to bring some fun and enjoyment to the driving experience. In comparison to other electric vehicles like the Corsa e, Renault Zoe, or the ID3, the Dolphin offers a more engaging and pleasurable driving experience. Whether you’re navigating city streets or embarking on long journeys, the Dolphin proves to be more than capable. With its impressive range and relatively affordable price, it’s hard to find anything not to like about this small yet exciting electric vehicle.
And there you have it, the BYD Dolphin in a nutshell. A small, enjoyable electric vehicle that exceeds expectations in terms of range, comfort, and driving experience. It’s clear that BYD has taken a step forward in the world of electric vehicles with the Dolphin. So, if you’re in the market for a new electric vehicle that’s both practical and fun, the BYD Dolphin could be the perfect choice for you.
The BYD Dolphin Review – The Next Wave in Electric Vehicles!
Cabin Noise and Downsides
As I said earlier on, the cabin noise can be a little bit intrusive, particularly when you’re on faster roads. However, it’s not a deal breaker by any means. Aside from that, there aren’t too many downsides for this car.
The BYD Dolphin has a really well-speced and well-put-together interior. It’s just nice and easy to use. The word I keep coming back to is easy because living with this car is a piece of cake. It’s really easy to drive and really easy to park.
Brilliant Infotainment System
One standout feature of the BYD Dolphin is its infotainment system, which works brilliantly. It provides all the necessary features and functionalities that make your driving experience enjoyable and convenient.

If you ask me, would I take one of these over an Aura Funky Cat? Would I take one over a Corsa e? Would I take one over a Zoe, over an ID3? Yes, I would. The BYD Dolphin offers a great overall package that makes it a compelling choice compared to its competitors.
