Lectron V2L Adapter Overview
The Lectron V2L adapter is a handy device that allows you to transform your Hyundai, Kia, or Genesis EV into a power outlet. With this adapter, you can power a variety of appliances and even provide backup power to your home. In this review, we will be comparing the Lectron V2L adapter to the ones from Kia and Hyundai and testing it with a portable space heater.
Unboxing and Specifications
Upon unboxing the Lectron V2L adapter, you can immediately see the specifications listed on the box. It essentially turns your EV into a normal Nema 515 outlet, capable of providing 125 volts and 15 amps of power. The package includes a manual and the adapter itself, which is securely wrapped in bubble wrap. Unlike the factory option, the Lectron V2L adapter does not come with a carrying case. However, the build quality appears to be decent.
Design and Size Comparison
Looking at the adapter, you can notice that it is noticeably smaller than the ones from Kia and Hyundai. This smaller form factor is definitely a plus, as it makes the adapter more portable and easier to handle. The outlet is clearly marked with Nema 515 and can accommodate various plug types. However, unlike the Kia adapter, the Lectron V2L does not come with a cover for the outlet that allows it to be closed while something is plugged in. Additionally, the Kia adapter also features a dust cap for storage, enhancing its convenience.
Testing with a Portable Space Heater
To evaluate the performance of the Lectron V2L adapter, we tested it with a portable space heater. We connected the heater to the adapter and plugged it into the EV. The adapter successfully powered the heater, providing a steady and reliable source of heat. Throughout the test, the adapter performed just as well as the ones from Kia and Hyundai.
In conclusion, the Lectron V2L adapter is a reliable and convenient tool for turning your Hyundai, Kia, or Genesis EV into a power outlet. Despite lacking a carrying case and certain features present in the factory options, it offers a smaller form factor and performs just as well. Whether you need to power appliances or provide backup power, the Lectron V2L adapter is a worthwhile investment.
Testing the Electron V2L Adapter
But you do have a carrying case with the factory one, so it’s not really necessary, but overall, very similar designs between the two, the electron does not have a button like the factory one does to enable the V2L functionality it’ll just start by releasing the latch mechanism.
Setting Up the Portable Space Heater
Here, after plugging it in which the latch mechanism does feel solid, but yeah let’s go ahead and test it out all right. So I have my portable space heater set up. We’ll go ahead and plug the Electron V2L adapter into the car, then we’ll plug in the portable space heater, and there was a ding, so you can tell the V2L is active and turning on the space heater. It is now running. It’s very simple and easy to use. This is a 1500-watt space heater, so it’s using a decent amount of energy. I’ll go ahead and show you everything up close. It is a good connection with the plug in the outlet.
Weather Limitations and Safety Concerns
As you can see, like I mentioned, the cover cannot be closed while something is plugged in unlike the one from the factory. So you definitely don’t want to use this if it’s raining or there’s any kind of risk of precipitation. I’ll go ahead and check inside the car here, and you can see that it is transferring the vehicle to load at 1.4 KW, so it’s working as it should.
Turning the V2L On and Off
I’ll go ahead and show you here how it’s turned on and off.
Remember, the context of the article is about turning your Hyundai/Kia/Genesis EV into a power outlet using the Lectron V2L Adapter.
Functionality and Design
The Lectron V2L Adapter offers a convenient way to turn your Hyundai/Kia/Genesis EV into a power outlet. With a simple on/off switch, it is easy to disable or enable the V2L functionality. The latch mechanism ensures a smooth operation, making it a user-friendly experience. Whether you own a Hyundai or Kia, both models offer efficient functionality with slight differences in their button placements. Nevertheless, they both serve their purpose exceptionally well.
When it comes to pricing, the Lectron V2L Adapter is a cost-effective choice compared to the factory version available on Amazon. At just $128.99 from Hyundai and Kia, this unit is a steal. In contrast, purchasing directly from the manufacturers or authorized sellers can easily cost several hundred dollars, with new factory units priced over $250. Although the lower price means sacrificing features such as a cover, carrying case, or dust cap, the decision ultimately rests on whether these additional benefits are worth the extra expenditure.
Overall, the Lectron V2L Adapter offers great value for money and does a commendable job of turning your Hyundai/Kia/Genesis EV into a power outlet.
